Your muffler looks really shiny. Did you repaint it or is that a black ceramic coating? And how is it holding up? Looks good. |

Sweet! Nice job, well done. I've done the opposite as you, with my 03 XB9S.

Thanks Guys. I like to speed quietly, so I got rid of my race pipe. The muffler is a stock unit with the brackets for the chin spoiler removed. Then I had it high heat powder coated semi-gloss black. It seems to be holding up fine and I think it looks better than the flat black. Cut, filed and sanded myself, cost $80.00 to have it blasted and coated. I'll have to post a pic of the other side, it makes the stock chrome tail pipe look cool. |

Hmmm... Hey Glitch, looks good too. Did the fork tube reflectors just 'peel' off? I might remove them also. Thanks. (Message edited by fireflyer on March 23, 2007) |

Yeah fork reflectors do just 'peel' off, that easy too. Sam |

Fire - Your bike looks real sweet, even if you got the ends on backwards! Jus' kiddin'. As everyone has mentioned, the reflectors will just peel off, a bit of heat with a hairdryer will make it even easier, now that it is still cold outside. Since you have an '03, you could easily polish your headers which might be a nice compliment to your shiny muffler, which looks very nice by the way. I would also think about losing the passenger pegs, unless of course, you have a regular passenger. Cleans up the back of the bike which is very sanitary now, with the black wheels and chopped cheese grater. |

Yeah Jon, I'd like to take off the pegs but I need them every now and then. My lo-res pic doesn't do the tailpiece any justice. I just received it from Trojan. Super bright, top quality piece, IMO. (Message edited by fireflyer on March 24, 2007) |

I was thinking of buying the XB12Scg because of my vertical challenges however I like the look of the Firebolt better. How much did that set you back to get the windshield and how easy was it to install. Can the tail section fit on a Lightning as well. Thanks Robert |

I really like what you've done with the muffler. Really nice industrial naked look. StreetFighter for sure. |

Hi Robert. I'm not sure about doing it to a XB12Scg. It was pretty easy in the my case. I just used the factory parts from a Firebolt, which bolt right up. The only thing that wasn't a direct swap was the headlight connectors. That was not a big deal either, just took 2 minutes with a test light to hook them up. I used that time to wire both lights to come on with the high beam. Firebolt parts I needed were: headlight assembly, fairing, fairing mount, windshield, upper triple clamp, handlebars, ignition switch, front brake line, mirrors, and the factory bolts and hardware to mount the stuff. I think it all ran about $700-$800. |

Glitch - Personally, I think that is the best look for the XB series. I have a question for you. Did the seating position change when you changed the seat to make you sit a little higher, or are the seat heights fairly similar? |

The seat is about (I'm guessing) 2 inches higher. Nice for my 34' inseam. |

glitch... i think i found a guy that wants to swap tails with me.. my 9s for his 9r. I believe he is located in NY and I am in IN. Is it easy enough to take apart mine and ship it.. as well as him doing the same...or do they really need to be side by side? |

Y'all can swap parts. Side by side only makes it much easier, and there's not any fear of not having a part when you really need it. There's a list somewhere with all the parts listed you'll be needing from him. As far as I know, my swap is one of the few that were done side by side. A lot were done with new parts. |

Glitch: I like that a lot. I've seen a bunch of conversions like Fireflyer's online, but I don't recall seeing one like yours. Nice job. How much did the conversion cost you? |

Hi Typeone. Thanks for the kind words. I'm in Middlebury CT. I see I've started a post that has people who like each type of swap. The cool thing is that you can go either way using all factory Buell parts. Both set-ups feel like they rolled out of the showroom that way. I liked my Lightning when I bought it, more than a Firebolt. But after many years of riding and racing sportbikes, I could not get used to being blown around at speed without a fairing to tuck in behind. I also like the more aggressive handlebar position of the Firebolt compared to what I had on the Lightning. At first I tried the lower bars from Crossroads, but I still wasn't happy so I finally did the Firebolt frontend. Opinions vary, of course. I know a few guys who really rip it up on their Lightnings with no problems. I did the conversion for function but now have a bike that IMO looks great. I love the small feeling of this bike especially with the chopped tail of the lightning. I was shocked when I saw the Honda motogp bike this year. It has no tail, with an under engine exhaust. It might be the start of a trend. |

i agree. i said the same thing when i saw that Honda. if i'm ever out riding Rt. 7 i'll let you know, would love to see the bike in person. i bet thats my next mod adding the R fairing for the same reasons. we tend to camp out in Kent every summer, not exactly next door to you but i bet you must ride in that area. beautiful as you get up north-west there. |

07xb12scg.....there are a few of the "glitch-like" conversions around....you just have to know where to look. you can do the conversion pretty cheap these days...finding a used (straight) r subframe is the only big cost item.

How much did the conversion cost you? $0! I read a thread than Wolfridgerider started. He wanted an S tail for his XB12R. I had always wanted to do the tail swap, so I offered a trade. He had business in my area, so I invited him to stay over and do the swap. BadWeB ROCKS! |

Tim, I've been thinking that every second after I set it down. How's the Tacoma aroma? Getting smelly yet? I bought the S1 in my profile from a little shop near the Tacoma Mall. |

Love the pics -- nothing like a modded version of a bike nobody recognizes anyways... Kidding, seriously I am looking to set up a swap too. I want to turn my 12R into a 12RScg (Scg tail, R front, CG suspension, swapped for my R rear and suspension). Love my R but my shorter inseam plus build (narrow hips) make the R a bit unwieldy for parking and such -- but honestly since that is 3% of my time my...it isn't a huge issue , but something I want to do when the right person turns up and it works out. |
