Irishago - Good luck in gaining entry. I'm rooting for you! If you are successful at gaining entry, I would be happy to send you a few bucks toward your effort. Is the mailing address correct on your website?

Just to add a bit of historical perspective, the first hundred mile an hour lap of the Island was done just fifty years ago, by Bob McIntyre on a Gilera, air cooled 500 cc. four.

Three years later, the "King of Brands" Derek Minter lapped the Island on a Manx Norton 500cc Single at 100, and Mike Hailwood did the same, lapping in a little over 22 minutes.

It seems to me, that a Buell, with twice the horsepower, and better suspension and tires, running on a continually improved course, could easily put a minute on a Manx , which now a days is considered sort of a slow historical relic for old guys to race.

Unless of course, I have gotten something terribly wrong.

Slick Bass? You're kidding man. That guy is a legend in his own underpants!

Slick Bass and your 11th place puts that Buell in no better hands. Rock on!

Jon the Gent, you have. Those Manx 500's you speak of can be bought brand new and much upto date whilst still allowed in Classic racing. The likes of Gardner, Spencer, Sheene and a host of other ex GP500 champs have tried their hand at classic racing on these very machines, and they are not slow historical relics as some would wrongly assume.

It just dawned on me. These modern day Classic racers, many have a Buell connection.

Graham Dyson, one half of Barton Engineering (Buells roots), is the man behind Nova Racing Transmissions who make transmissions for modern bikes as well as new transmissions for classic bikes. Many of the classic racers running today are equipped with Nova transmissions.
