That is some kind of cool!

Brian, did you notice that the guy also has twin ZTL rotors on the front wheel?

That dual front brake is great!!!

I think that setup would definitely overpower the stopping capacity of the tire though. Front end washouts anyone. Style over function!

That reminds me of a co-worker who did that on a Hyabusa, the first day he got it, with money that was supposed to go towards a down payment on his house. He paid 10k for the bike, after the wreck he sold it for 3k three days later.

B.t.w. he wasn't wearing a helmet. Lucky s.o.b. bounced his head off the pavement and only ended up with a knot the size of half a baseball.

Very nice : )
Those front brakes look more like the 'Braking' twin perimeter setup than ZTL I think. These are fitted as standard to some of the Ghezzi & Brian models (which is where my lottery winnings will go when I win....).

Looks like the oil is still in the swingarm. Look at the box at the pivot point.

Looks like he fabbed an oil tank between the engine and the back tire.

Matt,

If I may beg to differ, it does appear to me that it is the ZTL system.

No caliper visible on the left side.

Perhaps he realized that one is sufficient for retardation purposes:-)

The wheel appears to be entirely custom made, note the spokes.

Clearly a very dedicated and competent machinist involved here.

Let's find out who he is.

the rotors on the front look like stock buell ones. in the 2nd pick it looks like there is a cap in the stock location on a normal swing arm for the oil fill.

it is hard to tell with the poor quality of the pics.

I think the lack of caliper is due to the bike being half built rather than intentionally missing. Wheel looks very much like a PVM patern, although maybe he has made it like that to match the rear.

I hope not. Those uni-directional brake pads won't work with the rotor spinning that direction. ;)

I don't know if it's a finished work or not, but this guy doesn't seem to do anything for show. Everything seems minimalist or "go fast". He appears to be a machinist's artist.

I don't see any welded bullets or spinning logos on his wheels.

Actually Xring, it looks like he refabbed the stock swingarm on the left side. The oil is to front of swingarm even on a stock swingarm. He must of renforced the right side and made it solid and most likely used a brake and rotor from Ducati to make it work. Then also fab a caliper mount of some sort. None the less lots of thought and work. I dig it.

OK, I got the whole story on the bike.

It was built by a 23 year old Buell and Ducati enthusiast from New Jersey, named Brian Petersen.

Here are some details as I remember them. More to follow including better photos.

The front and rear wheels are Marchesini, with the front wheel with custom inserts to take the Buell rotors welded on. There is a custom caliper for the left side, just not mounted yet.

The headlight is not at all complete.

The wheels are anodized to match the Ohlins front end.
The rear shock shown is a Penske, but the bike will have a custom Ohlins fitted.

The bike's body parts are all carbon, and the bike weighs about 350# dry. The swing arm adds no weight over stock.

The seat is custom carbon fiber, with custom aluminum side rails, with the riding position a bit more to the rear, as Brian is more used to a Ducati seating position.

The stainless exhaust was made by Brian, sort of based on the Flowmaster design, not entirely unlike the Latus.

The wheelbase is about 54"

Brian is planning on taking the bike to Daytona, where it will be offered for sale. Tentative asking price is $25,000.

I will be posting more photos later.

Brian's email, ( I hope this is ok to post:-), is :

bp1petersen@yahoo.com

I must say that I find this bike to be a real stunner, so original, so artistic and so well executed - and it is all the more amazing the builder is only 23 years old.

The swing arm adds no weight over stock.
I wonder how he took a swingarm that naturally weighs more than a standard Buell one, added an oil bag, and ended up with less/same weight?

Glitch -

I forgot to mention that Brian has designed a rear brake that fits on the engine sprocket. That removes the entire weight of the rear rotor and caliper from the swing arm assembly. Whether or not this results in a sufficient weight savings I can only guess

This concept was used for racing some years ago, but it was outlawed, supposedly because there would be no rear brake in the case of a broken chain.

Anyone notice the rearsets? Also looks like he designed the exhaust to be load bearing like the stock exhaust.

Yer kidding right?
Or do you mean you can lift the bike with it?

That has to be the ugliest ever single sided arm bike in the history of single sided arm bikes.

I can only conclude that if ever a motorcycle were not suitable aesthetically for a single sided swing arm, the XB Buells must top the list.
