what do you think the lightest weight XB that could be built for the street? if money were no object. it would have to have everything on it to keep it legal (headlight, tail light) and useable (starter, kickstand etc), but it wouldnt have to be factory buell equipment.

I'm thinking 420lbs or so if you did away with everything non-essential and money was no object
on lightening the stuff you have to have.

Titanium and carbon fiber...

I'm sure you could save a ton of weight, but if you look at the weight of a race bike versus a street bike it's not always that dramatic.

I'm still willing to give it a try and make my bike as light as possible using titanium and carbon fiber. Now I just need sponsors to donate cash and parts to this project. Who's going to step up first? ;)

A friend builds carbon fiber snowmobile chassis and accessories. I bet he can shave 75-100 lbs off if you have the wallet.

hi................we have managed to strip about 8 kg of weight from my XB12 engine (around 7 kg in rotating/moving masses with the starter motor still in place). My exhaust system will weight around 5 kg (work in progress). The planned weight for the carbon tail section (no sub frame needed) is around 1.4 kg (don't know what the original one weights). So I gather that you can get rid of 20 kilogram with a bit of effort.

I think shaving 100 lbs off the bike might require a two ton wallet

I don't know if shaving weight off of the rider is easier. That takes work like running... You can make your bike lighter by handing over cash for the parts.
