I need to get rid of my cheese grater. What's the best thing to do, chop it or buy an aftermarket tail piece? I'd really like to keep my original grater so if I was to chop it I would probably buy a used one. How hard is it to chop? The piece looks a little challenging, so I am hesitant. Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket tail piece? I like the idea of an aftermarket piece, but am not sure which to go with. I really don't want to spend $250-$300, so I am looking for the best bang for the buck in this case. Any help would be greatly appreciated. | ||

I second the Special Ops tail. I too bought a used one, and then tried to "chop" it myself. BIG mistake. It's a solid chunk of AL, and without the proper tools...(plasma cutter, grinders, sanders)it'd be a major pia. I sent it to Odie and he returned a work of art. Looks completely stock. For the money, it can't be beat. Trust me, he's not making anything on those...it takes hours to machine it down and finish it by hand. My .02 TK | ||

here are some pics of the one I made, I got the tail for like $30 of ebay. I went a step farther and cut the plate mount off, milled a flat spot on the bottom of the tail and welded the mount to the bottom so i didnt have to drill holes in the undertail for the plate.     hope this is of some help, in the latter pics that is a smoked clear tail light lense cause I made my own LED tail. | ||

I modified a used tailpiece. I chopped and sanded it myself - no big deal. I milled some flat spots on the sides to fit the stock signals too. Kevin's painted it Sunset Orange for me. I'll post pictures of it next week after I install it on my Ss. | ||

Cut it yourself its as easy as pie.Hacksaw,dremel tool,files,sandpaper and some metal filler for pour fill in the aluminum.Takes about 2hrs and your done. | ||

If you look at the bottom side of your tail piece you can see the flat profile that you want to follow and a slight raised section for the tail light. Use some sort of grinder to removed the major bulk of material and then a file or better yet a die grinder with sanding disks to finish the peice. Once you have all the material remove round the corners a little and remove the two raised sections. I did my own and then polished it after. It is a fun project for a sunday afternoon. | ||

Bottom Line: If you are a good metalworker, and have the tools and experience, do it yourself. If not, send it to Odie. I did mine myself, the day before Odie posted his. I wouldn't do it again. Odie's job was better, and it's a bargain at a buck and a half. | ||

THE REASON STEALTH IS SAYING THAT ABOUT RIZOMA, IS BECAUSE HE SAW MY RIZOMA TAILPIECE. IT IS A TOTAL PIECE OF SH!T!!!! I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM AGAIN. IT DOESNT FIT WELL AT ALL!!!!!!! ITS MADE OF CHEAP AZZ FIBERGLASS AND CRACKS REALLY EASILY. OH YEA, THEIR REARSETS ARENT THOUGHTFULLY DESIGNED EITHER. AFTER I BOUGHT MY RIZOMA, I CHOPPED MY OWN, AND LOVED THE WAY IT LOOKED. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT IT IS THE FACT THAT BEFORE I GOT TO FINISH IT, I WRECKED MY BIKE, AND IT BROKE. OH WELL. I love my Odie tail piece. I don't have the tools or the space to work on it. I love my Odie tail piece. Have an Odie muffler coming this Monday. I asked him to put the stock outlet back on and it is going to look stealth. Great guy to work with. Can't wait to hear it.  | ||

I did my strainerectomy myself as well. It took a weekend from start to finish, including paint. check out my website russtyson dot com, I have some pictures there. Odie's does look better though, he has a really close clean look to it. I didn't grind as far, and I left a lip around the bottom of the tail light. | ||

I painted my pasta stainer Black, instead of the blue color as found on the SX models. It looks pretty good all blacked out, plus I still get some roost protection! | ||

I made a fiberglass piece to replace the pasta stainer.  The next thing I'll try is to make a short one like a chop one but made of fiberglass. I don't want to cut the original part because I'm not sure the extended CF hugger will protect my back enough on wet road. |
