Rumbles

Have a Buell City X on order and I stumbled across a thread in a different forum discussing mechanical engine noise from Buell engines. I would like to know what to expect for engine noise in the new bike once it gets here. My TC88 on my Road King makes a fair amount of mechanical noise and the V-Rod hardly makes any, makes sence water cooled probably insulates the engine better. How would you guys rate Buell engines for noise mechanical noises, ticking etc?

Sometimes when I pull up people will ask if it is blowing up. I would not have it any other way. Love those mechanical sounds.

If you get a louder aftermarket exhaust it will cover up alot of the noise. Its weird because you can only really hear it if you are on the bike. When you hear a Buell drive by, all you hear is that beautiful exhaust note!

I laughed out loud reading your response and have to admit that you are so right.

I had a Ducati Monster with a dry clutch before I got my Buell. Talk about loud noises from an engine. I can't count the number of times people asked me if there was something wrong with my engine. The Buell is a silent wonder compared to the noise that bike made.

My 12r is typically knocky.Brucen talks about Ducati noise,my 996 makes a lot of "dry clutch" ringing.A lot of people warn me my Ducati's valves are out of adjustment... no nothing morons....THEN i pull in the clutch lever and the ringing disappears! The Buell noises are nothing to be alarmed about.

My engine doesn't sound like quarters in a blender, more like nickles in a grinder! I just drown it out with intake noise and exhaust.

If'n you get a noise that sounds like someone snuck a wooden marble into your transmission case - that's a sound to pay attention to. You need to adjust your primary chain...
