Where is the best place to look for a new belt? I see a hair line split. Also, after my experience with the dealership, can I do this myself?

Gives Daves from Appleton a call. The belts are about $100, IIRC.

And yes, changing one is pretty straightforward. Get a service manual.

Just keep the belt as straight as possible.
Don't force.
Be patient.
And above all, do not let Bryan find out if you pooched the job...

You could consider fitting 1 of these beauties aswell ? a revised idler-pulley tensioner,that is said to put less stress on the belt,thus prolonging the life! avalible from Trojan-Horse here in the UK.

make sure you break it in after its fitted. Buell says that that is essential to good belt life. 100 - 200 miles.

That's really more of an "aftermarket" piece as opposed to "revised". An anony posted about that piece and seemed to think it was fairly useless as the position of the original tensioner is what really matters. The original probably will put more tension into the belt and will keep it very constant.

If you ask me -
That piece looks nice and probably doesn't really hurt anything as long as the wheel is in exactly the same spot in it's default position.

Just My opinion though... YMMV.

Yeah, that's not a "revised" part (i.e. you can't get it from the factory), it's aftermarket.

I started a thread and posted a pic asking about that very part. The anony answer I got back convinced me it was not worth the money.
