Kaese: Do not remove the velocity stack! The snorkel that needs to be removed is the rubber tube that runs through the frame/tank on the left side (as you're sitting on the bike). The velocity stack helps speed up the air as it goes into the throttle body, the snorkel makes the intake quiet so the bike will pass noise emissions. But don't feel too bad, I almost made the same mistake.
Edit: Oh yeah, and the flat spot is still there, just not as big, and not as noticeable.

glitch Thanks for saying what I was thinking.

Kaese...snorkle snorkel snorkel...

the velocity stack creats its name velocity. In conjunction with the 12 airbox it works even better...ain't it a beautiful world...

I almost removed the velocity stack, but it really looked like a pain to do and put it back together. Then I did the post.

I installed the 12 Airbox and it looks as if they molded a nipple on the underside above the velocity stack. I guess they trying to create a vortex to force some more air down in the throttle body
. They must have been watching the ads on late night for the “Tornado”.

I also did notice that my gas mileage improved over the 9box with holes to equal to what I was getting bone stock. Someone posted that better mileage with the snorkel gets removed. The only thing I really don’t like about the XB9 is the size of the tank! 150 miles doesn’t cut it, I hate living at the pump!

Kaese,

You do a couple 400+ mile days and you'll appreciate that gas tank. :)

Doesn't hurt to stretch, have a cup of coffee and a cigarette every couple hours.

So do we have dyno charts showing good results with the snorkel removed? I assumed it was increasing velocity into the airbox at lower engine speeds at the expense of a little top end power.

It there for noise reduction so the government gets happy.....come along with the uprising and remove it....

you gotta ask your self why would they say to remove it with the installation of a race kit....

because then the govenment is no longer involved in our play time

Brian: If you haven't found any mirrors to ship yet, can you throw in the 7/8 hex nut that is included in the tool kit? The one they caution you not to loose. It took a test ride, never to be seen again.

Thanks

Do we have any dyno charts for the XB9 with a comparison between the stock air box and one from the XB12?

Thanks,
Keith

The mirros should be on there way to me. And I will look into getting that nut. you know the one your not supposed to lose.

Skully
I don't have any with the stock box against the 12. But remember how the holes worked in the 9 compared to stock. That is what the 12 does without the noise. or are you just wanting to make up some more fancy charts.

BTW
the dyno charts are waiting to be picked up by the mailman to get to you

Me!? Fancy charts!?

I was curious what the result would be if you compared a drilled XB9 box to a drilled XB12? Besides, with the D&D I ain't got no air box noise...

Ooops I forgot. I will mail ya some stickers today. I dropped the ball on that.

skully
Oh you have the noise....you just can't hear it

All I know on the 12 drilled was a butt dyno from someone and they said it felt like it lost a lil. But I can't say for sure
