I am not quite sure but I think he is saying he created his own venturi by attaching it in the 9 airbox right in the middle of the filter directed down into the throttle body.

don't quote me on this but thats what I think he is saying.

-Because i am in college, and the corps is not paying IAR's (event though we have to go to work 3 days a week)... I decided the cheap route of drilling. Wow, do I love that sound. MAn And when you blip the throttle for a downshift. That was sick.... If you like a loud bike with deep boom noise on every downshift, 3/8 th holes are the way too go... How much for a chip buckinfubba?

I just called my local HD dealership to ask if they would install the chip and do TPS reset. Well they asked if I would be doing a air filter and exhaust at the same time.I told them That I had a filter already. Then they said that I shouldn't get the chip until I buy an exhaust. So that They could tune the chip to the exhaust and filter. So I said thats nice, can you install the chip anyways? They said sure it will be about an hour to an hour and a half labor.
Whats crazy is everytime I have been to this particular dealership they have been totally cool. But I think they are upset that I was bringing a part in. I don't know, Any ideas opinions???

Fitting the ECM is very easy and would take under 10 minutes, I spent less time retrofitting the GPS stuff under my fairing!

TPS zero still has to be done though but that should be 1/2 hr work tops? $30?

You could do the filter and ecm yourself rather easy. Take off the seat and then the 4 screws that hold the outer airbox cover off. Take the tabs of the inner airbox off pull the top off and replace the filter.

to get to the ecm. just take the fairing off and release the ecm . unplug it and plug in the new one then go get the TPS reset.

If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. then take it in. but those 3 things, replaceing filter, ecm, reseting tps should only take 1/2 hour to 45 mins. doing the whole thing pipe and all is only a 1 1/2 hour job.

as far as tuning the chip to the exhaust...when you get the new ecm and reset the tps...ride it down the road at 3 to 3.5k rom for 5 to 10 miles and it tunes its self. then when its warm you adjust the idle.

the ecm is not able to be manually adjusted.

its not been tested on a dyno but cyclonecharlie bought 2 12 airboxes and tested with the butt dyno and he said that it felt like it lost some power down low to mid range.
but like I said it ain't been dyno tested that I know of

Is the US race ECM and the European one the same? Is there any reason not to us a US race ECM on a UK buell with K&N and Race zorst?

as far as I know they are the same ecm. I've never seen a international number. And I doubt there is because they do not have to meet govt. emissions with those because They are for "OFF ROAD USE ONLY" not that any of us would ever use those parts on the street....

not that many years ago we fouhgt for freedom just to give it all away again in our new world.

Now, when I plug the race ecm in, will it run well enough to drive the 20 miles to get it to a dealer? Thats the only reason I was trying to get a dealer to do it. I wasn't sure if it will start after I just switch the ecms???

yeah it should run well enuff to get to a dealer. All the guys around here that did it home rode on in to get the tps reset. Most 10 to 20 mile rides.

Question,
I have a stock (with k&n element) 2001 S3 with 2600 miles on it. Can I (should I) drill some holes in my stock airbox without having to adjust anything else? I also thought I saw a pic of someone using a venturi type (like inside an SS filter) inside the airbox. This would be bolted on using the screws that hold the airbox to the intake. Is this something I should look at doing? Money is fairly tight right now.

Don't drill holes in your box. This is about the xb's which the filters are in different places so therefore it can be done with out fearing dirt and crap getting in the engine.

there been stuff said before with the ol bread boxes to take the snorkel out and put the venturi ring in there and that helps a lil.

Got my "Box Top" last night.
Put it on.
Rode around for a little while.
Rode into work.
What I noticed:
Smoother throttle.
Less popping on decel, a lot less.
More burbble (is that even a word?) on decel.

Oh yeah, I now have a "Tilley" logo on the back of my Buell Poll Position helmet.
I guess the StreetFighter seat is next.

I have to agree with Glitch about the results of the 12 airbox compared with the 9 with holes. The only other thing I noticed was anything past a 2/3 throttle opening, acceleration seemed flat. Anyone else experience that?

Kaese: Are you talking about from cruising speed to wide open throttle? Or what. I'll test this on my way home this evening and post what I find. I have found though (before 12 the box top) that if I was wide open throttle, the acceleration was kinda flat, and that rolling back a little would make it accelerate hard. But I thought this was because the bike was going into "open loop" and therefore not "learning"...am I making sense? Is that what you're talking about? Is there anyone that can enlighten me?

The open and closed loop could be the reason, but it seems the torque curve flattens out significantly if the throttle is opened more than 2/3 of the way. It's at cruising speed, I'll pay attention to the RPMs on my way home also. I didn't notice it before with a stock ECM and 2 inch holes everywhere in the airbox.

Ya'll need to test that cruising speed theory on I-85 North tomorrow and Saturday we'll run the BRP? 85 ain't nothing but a damn racetrack on Friday's anyway.

If you can't get this far north I'll meet you somewhere in the middle. Advise.

Kaese: It's still there but only at wide open throttle, and I mean all the way to the stop, and I didn't have to let it of but a very little bit, less than before. So that has been another improvement. I noticed also that a roll on from 60 to 90 was way faster than before. Talk about an easy performance upgrade!

Glitch: Did you mean that the flat spot was still there? Yeah, I’m talking about to the stop. I have some Buell “Traction Grips” that are larger in diameter than the stock ones. To tell you the truth, I don’t remember the throttle going around that far. Maybe I’ve never really gone all the way to the stop before.

BTW, I took apart the velocity stack and was trying to figure out how they removed yours. It is all one piece into the throttle body. Is the goal to remove as much of the diameter into the insert into the throttle body? Does anyone sell one aftermarket without the velocity stack? I don’t want to have to purchase another part needlessly. Just trying to do it right the first time.
Wish I lived around I-85 for this weekend.
