How normal is this on a xb9r with a race kit?

It happens on my stock xb9s. I think you just notice it more with the louder muffler.

Sometimes popping is a sign of an exhaust leak.

Does it sound kinda like a backfire? If it does, then it is completely normal. Don't worry about it.

I've had my Firebolt race kitted since the kits FIRST came out. Mine popped on decel quite a bit at first, now it only does it VERY rarely and only if I engine brake under a good load (ie, with a passenger on the bike).

Chaser,

IMHO, It should "burble and pop" a little, particularly when freshly started from cold... It should when warmed up to operating temp almost go away; maybe a slight "burble" - no "pop"... This of course is keeping in mind "normal" engine braking... that is to say you're not doing 70MPH in second and letting off the throttle... then of course I'd expect some "popping"....

Yep, it's normal.. Mine does now under HARD engine braking or if I do the on/off switch thing with the throttle as opposed to rolling it.

Don't worry.. It'll lessen as the engine breaks in, then you'll only have it rarely..

Later,

The popping does go away with mileage; I hadn't noticed that mine had stopped until I read these posts.

My 9s "pops & burbles" around the 3000rpm mark when I use the engine for braking.

I kinda like it.......

My 9s with race kit pops when cold too, and always burbles under deceleration. probably the reason i "engine brake" all the time from a rate of knots.... I LOVE IT!
