I am concerned about the sidestand on my 2003 XB9S. I see a number of horror stories about the screw snapping off. I see no recall for it (only the XB9SL) but I don't see how this will not fail when the others (even newer models) fail. I read about a solution using a shoulder bolt, but it is for the non-switch models. Any suggestions? |

Don't weld to the frame! There is a big warning sticker about that on it! Perhaps some setup that clamps onto the frame pucks? |

-=shrugs=- There WAS a recall on the sidestand for my 2003 XB9R. I never had it done, and I trust the sidestand plenty. Do you have reason not to, other than a few other people's experiences? Check the bolt, spring, stand, and mount. If it all looks good, why worry? |

I agree with Darthane. I have the xb9sl, and I just check it every once in a while. If it's tight, then it's tight. |

The only reason they break is because the screw can back out from vibration. If you'll Loc-tite it in, you shouldn't have a problem. I haven't done it to mine yet ('06) because that spring seems a little stubborn, so I just crank it back down every, oh, 10-20 rides. Or, you could shell out some $$$ for the updated ('07 I think) kickstand. It uses a C-clip if I'm not mistaken, so there's no threaded bolts to worry about. It's on my list of "parts I'd like to have but aren't a priority". ~SM |
