I have a 2008 1125r that has a 2010 motor because of warranty. I noticed a few days ago it was making noise around the stator area and had a look. I found the balance gears shown here were shot the looks just like the ones on the left of this photo. I called around to a few Harley shops and cant believe the price of these two gears one is $536 and the other is $300.00 plus. Is there anywhere else I can check to see if there is a better price?
Last spring I put $2,300 into the new motor replacement. If I replace the gears at $900 and do the stator rotor mod for around $400.00 I would be in it for $3,600 that I never really had in the first place. I dont know what to do at this point the new motor has 4500 miles on it in the last year and what parts of it I seen while taking the gears out all looked good. Is there anyone interested in the bike as a whole or should I consider parting a brand new motor with less that 5000 miles on it? The bike has a new motor, EBR ECM for a Keda RT3 with engine braking and pipe to match, full Flexie Glass Fairings and front finder, rear finder eliminator and new tires last fall. |

You can find motors on ebay for <$1k from wrecked bikes. find one of those and grab the gears, then u have spear motor parts. |

It's a thought I'm just not sure if I want to run used gears or not may have the same problem or be in the process of going bad and you would never know it until you take off the covers and look. |

I'll look to see what I have. I wouldn't worry about used gears. If they are defective, it happens pretty quickly, so it would show on used gears prior to buying them. Also the gears when not defective, are hardened and the bearing surface is aluminum, so unless there was an obvious oiling problem, wear should not be an issue. If someone could check to see if the part #s from the '10 motor are the same for an '08 motor on these, that would be helpful. I assume that the dealer who installed the motor is not providing warranty help on these as they should. The parts are known to be occasionally defective. Have you tried Harley customer service? I know LOL, but sometimes they actually do something. (Message edited by Rodrob on May 03, 2013) |

That is a good point about used gears. I fought with HD tooth and nail last spring when the new motor was put in because the were refusing to give me any type of warranty not even 30 days. It was just here's your new motor hope you don't have any problems. I asked if there was any room to come down on the price of the gears to and no surprise there either. I do not know if the part numbers are the same for 2010 but the ones they gave me were U0041.1am Uoo40.1am. |

eBay is littered with parts for these bikes. That is exactly what I'd do. If you're doing it yourself, the labor is free and the parts will be cheap. Not sure if you've looked around, but for less than $4g, you cannot find a decent ride. Not with the fun of what you got. I put together my scrapped cr with an eBay frame for $400. My over all invest to fix was less than $3500, that was with buying back from insurance. What can I get for that kinda scrilla?? |

eBay worked perfect I found the two gears I needed and paid 63 bucks to have them shipped to my door. They looked good in the pictures and I also confirmed that they are the same for all 3 years. Never would of thought about looking there but as you said there was tons of parts there |

Russmannn - did you get them from a private party or Pinwall? Just wondering, I initially thought they were a bit on the high side... But after getting several Sportster parts from them, I'm impressed with their customer service. great attitude. Zack |

At least until something else breaks.. Get'er fixed is starting to become the catch phrase these days.. I've about run out of get'er fixed patience and money.. But still love the bike, just don't think I personally can afford to keep it anymore.. Least I know why the price was so good compared to the other options. |

I agree I think all the fire sale ones are trying to still suck the full 12g's out of all of us. I got 7500 in mine now and still pretty happy. |

Russ...lol, I'm up to the 12g's myself. Can't afford to sink anymore money into it. I like HD's approach to helping America but having us buy more and more parts can't be the answer. I'll have to start looking on Ebay.. |
