Hello all New to the forum but I have been following it for about a year now. I took my 2008 1125R on the first ride of the year to work, (35 degrees when I left home), it ran fine. On the way back, it surged like it was running out of fuel, the speedo flashed a couple times on and off, and showed low system voltage warning, then just died. Pulled the seat off at home, and the start relay is making a rapid *click* noise. I happened to have a spare on hand, so I swapped and still have the same issue. I proceeded to pull plastics off and do testing for broken leads or grounds on that circuit to no avail. I unplugged the gauge, turned on the key, lights all came on, no buzzing, so I hit the starter button, lights off and *clicking* again. I plugged the gauge back in and toggled the key thirty or forty times and occasionally the lights and gauge lit up, hit the starter button, power out again. Triple checked the fuses today, pulled them out one at a time, turned the key on just for giggles. Pulled the lights fuse, all lights and dash came on. Turned out to be another happy chance that they all powered up, but now I'm really confused. Makes me thing there's a possible short in the fuse box or wiring. I will mention that I charged and load tested my battery today 400-600 CA snap on tester, tested 34%, a little heavy on the draw, but I use the same tester at the shop and its pretty close. I do have a new battery on order. Also may be worth noting, I did the 12,500 mile service this winter, went and rode it after and it seemed normal. Sorry for the long-windedness, but as a mechanic I prefer as many details as possible. Any help is appreciated. |

Forgot To Mention That The Fuel Pump cycles, So It Has To Be In That Circuit |

It's a little bit of work, but check your ignition switch. You'll need to get it out and pull it apart to get to the contacts within the switch. Where the harness goes around the fairing, it becomes real tight and puts a strain on the ignition switch wiring. Over time, it will pull your ignition switch connections apart. Zac4mac cut a bit of material away from the fairing to give some relief to the harness wiring and hasn't had a problem since. |

Battery is probably bad jump it see if it starts then check the charging of the battery and then or while you do that make sure everything is tight. Thats pretty much how I would start to find the problem. |

Already checked connections for tightness. A new battery is on order and I don't have a jumper battery available unfortuntely. Will update when battery comes in. |

You know, you can probably use a car to jump it as long as you don't leave it on there forever it should be ok. |

Hi guys, was out for a nice 400 mile weekend ride when I noticed both the check engine and battery lights had turned on. A couple of quick button pushes over to the voltage meter and sure enough it was showing 11.7 and then 11.6 and so on. Pulled over and that was that for the ride. As I've never had the dreaded stator failure, I'm wondering if the sequence of events includes the check engine light coming on or if this could be something else? Oh and by the way, the free 60 mile road side assistance towing and accommodations included in the Harley extended warranty is a joke. You pay for everything up front and then, if it's determined to be a warranty issue, they will reimburse you up to the maximum limit(s), which in general are too low by today's standards anyway. |

Joe thats the failure. But does your bike have the "harness fix"? If it does pm ne and I'll give the link of the video to disconnect it and see if your system is charging. Dave |
