Well, this is dreadful. the dreaded 12k mile service. Every HD place is quaking in their boots.

Anyways... So!

Oakland HD- 750, 3 week wait (after I waited a MONTH to get it into them, only for them to tell me they dident order parts)

Monterey HD- 850... can fit me in easily... but I never felt inspired by their service (oaklands service was impeccible)

Dudley Perkins HD- 1k, with a 15% discount from their SM, so 850.

Iv done a valvecheck on other bikes, its not TERRIBAD... but I also dont want them to fight me on warrenty grounds. Im not a "trained" mechanic. So... what are the prices all yall are paying?

$55 for shims, $15 for the filter, $40 for a gallon of Amsoil and I forget what it was for the spark plugs, but not a lot. All together, a bit over $100 and 3 days time, maybe a few hours a day. Could have done it faster if I had been in a hurry, but it was January, so I wasn't feeling too rushed to get it done.

Done that service myself, twice now.
First time, clearance was all in spec but I had a bad cam.
Dealership got it midway thru the service, R&R'd the cam and buttoned her up.
Second time I had to replace 6 of 8 shims.

Last big deal was forks, so I made all the tools I need to do that job again.

Nothing real hard so far, if you have the manuals...

It was $300ish for my 12k service at Danbury HD, then I reminded the service writer that I was in for warranty work (oil leak), I got it reduced even further. I had my other bike done at a local independent shop, they charged me $360 for the entire 12k too. Shop around more. Oh, and I didn't wait for the service to be done at either shop.

I may call my local independent shop and see what they have to say.

I dont mind paying a lot for a quality service.

What about the guys on here from Infinion raceway (Sears Point)? Bit of a drive but great rep. Do a track day after.

My local HD said it would be $150, I even told them that sounded too cheap and if they could double check. I was told the Buell tech there knew his stuff and he came up with the price (and they looked at me as if I was an idiot to doubt them). Sounds too good to be true to me, I walked out.

Then I went to my local import bike shop where I have had good service (they do work on other rotax stuff), they wouldn't quote it without seeing the factory service manual, which I gave them. After reviewing it they quoted $200 including an amsoil oil/filter change, not including shims etc... For that price I don't feel like tearing things apart myself. It still sounds mighty cheap.

I am in the process of getting a quote from LatusHD. I told them I do many of the service tasks myself. I asked to get in writing the cost of each service to be performed and that I would have them do the plugs, valve check, and coolant flush for sure. That was late yesterday afternoon, I have not heard back yet.

I am leaning toward having mine done by an independent shop that specializes in Ducs.

...btw, I have a had a couple bad experiences with Buell service over the years. So, I am not feeling good about letting a HD shop rotate my motor and crack the heads.

I'd like to hear experiences from those who have already had their valves check at the dealer good & bad.
