I've been having all sorts of bizarre problems lately. First the carb screws (Thanks for the help on that, by the way.) now I can't even get her started up, or at least, I'm scared of what will happen. I re-attached my carb after a trip to the hardware store to get the screws to hold the carb-top on and my engine started, but was making a painful-sounding and VERY LOUD banging that seems in-sync with the sweet sound of normal operation. Accompanying the noise is a jerking in the front end, as though someone were kicking the bars from behind. This has me convinced that this probably isn't something in the chain adjustment but something much more horrible. I'm totally aghast that something that sounds so bad could happen while the bike was sitting in the garage (To rule out the suspicion of sabotage, of course.) What on earth could be wrong now?! |

How is the intake coupling? Where is the banging noise coming from? a collapsed lifter? No that doesn't sound good! EZ |

The coupler looks fine, but it bangs even with the carb assembly off... just from the starter motor turning it over. The sound is definitely coming from the engine. I had just had the local stealership in the transmission to change the fluid and I asked about the primary, but in retrospect, they didn't really seem all that competent anyway. How would I check the isolator and how could it just suddenly go bad all at once? |

The rubber on an isolator could tear - trying to figure out if the noise is internal or external. the isolator is at the front of the bike - can you track down - off the bike - not sitting on it - where noise is coming from? EZ |

I'm not sure what you're asking. It's definitely internal to the cylinder. The bike sort of "hops" forward. It seems almost as if the piston is striking something. |

Don't mess with it any more - if not mechanically inclined - see dealership. EZ |
