For those of you that are running the Zero Gravity sport touring windscreen "3.5" taller" how are you mounting it? Are you using the stock style mounts or are you screwing it on with the buell tall windshield hardware? Just wondering about flying off issues.

I am using the stock mounts, no screws, with no issues so far - 6,000 miles. I'm not a high-speed person so have not exceeded about 90 mph. If you notice, the ZG does not have a lip at the top as does the Buell tall and others, e.g.Cee Baily. I think that lip is responsible for the need for special mounting systems.

Thanks that makes me feel better I cant see myself going over 90 mph. I just was picturing that wind screen hitting me in the face at 75!!!

Stock mounts and it has been to top speed. It is not coming out with stock mounts. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the new Buell tall is actually the ZG without the labels? My brother just got one and it is a dead ringer of my ZG.

Orangeulius uses a Buell tall and I have the ZG. His has a "reverse lip" at the top while the ZG goes straight. At least those two are different. Maybe Buell has re-sourced their tall wind screen.

That's the old model that they issued the recall on and had the screw down kit for. They have a new tall model now.

I have been thinking of cutting the lip off my Buell tall screen. I find it does have more helmet buffeting then the stock screen and wonder if I could cut the lip off and go to the stock mounting. I hate to have to pull the fly screen and unscrew the windshield just to clean there during bug season.

I liked the added stability in high winds with my Buell tall. The helmet buffeting finally got to me and I switched back to the stock small screen. I hadn't noticed that Buell changed theirs and removed the lip. I will either get a ZG or the revised Buell tall. I like the fact that you can carry either screen in the side bags and switch out quickly with no hardware needed.

I have both the ZG and stock windscreen. I use the stock push pin mounting on the ZG and have had no problems, all at speeds less than 100 mph.
I ordered an extra set of push pins so that I can swap out the windscreens very quickly. I use the tall for long trips, and the stock one for around town, and with the warmer weather.
I expect the ZG to get more use during the winter(hey, it does get a little cooler here too! )

For what it is worth, I believe Madstad will have a adjustable bracket for the Uly in the next few weeks. Might be worth waiting for, I was a dremel tool away from cutting down my buell tall, think I'll wait!

I've been using Madstad Marks adjustable bracket as a tester (teste ?) for the past 4 months with multiple windscreens. At 6'4" and really tall in the saddle, the bracket helps adjust for rider physical differences and riding styles (roads). The stock short just left me in the blast. Great at slow speeds, but hit that magic 70+, and I felt like a parachute.
We tried stock, stock tall, custom made (leftover Mark had from another trial run),Zero Gravity, and one that had a good bit a lip at the top. Almost every one gave me an increase in noise or buffet except the stock short and the one I currently run, Zero Gravity tall. The adjustably is great and when you find that sweet spot, it's wonderful.
The biggest problem Mark had I think, was vibes with the taller screen and his bracket. Shook the crap out of the flyscreen at idle. Solution was an aluminum flyscreen that I still run now. Very firm, keeps the shield from looking like an epileptic fit gone bad.
I really like the whole idea - I had too much turbulence being a tall dude. And no luck searching for a just right screen. This really helped.
And that lip on some shields make the turbulence soooooo much worse for me with the bracket. They just can't be adjusted for my height. I liked it without the bracket for the most part, but not with. I've told Mark I will buy a set from him when he goes into production. I'd even live with the mockups permanently if he lets me keep them.
Any size of dude or dudette will appreciate this bracket. Makes it easy to get in the good pocket of wind no matter how big or small the rider without buying and testing multiple windshields.
Mike

Crap - edit - it all bolts together - no iffy push pins or other bits that worry the speed freaks.

yeah, I need pictures. I hate the tock screen, on the highway the wind hits my forearms so strong that I feel that I might actualy shake the bike by mistake. The ZG is much, much better, but at 80mph I still get more buffeting than I would like to have. I alos own a SV1000 that has sportbike bars instead of clippons, and it has way way less wind effect than the Buell. I realize that I do sit more upright on the Buell, but still less wind buffeting the bike and me the less fatigue and more rider confidence I will have. In other words the SV feels more stable aat 100mph than the Buell does at 80MPH, just much les comfy riding position for longer rides.

I cut the lip off the high Buell screen. it is an improvment over the stock screen and a major improvment over the tall screen with the lip. Still not a great screen. I am interested in the above post about the new Buell tall screen not having the lip and being identical to the ZG screen. Anyone else with more info ref this?

My 2007 had the Buell tall screen on when I bought it. Must have been the new style because there was no lip on it like some here have described. It flew off the bike after about the first 6 weeks while I was riding on the interstate. The dealer I bought the bike from failed to perform the recall, which amounted to replacing the plastic fasteners with more secure metal bolts. Had a big fiasco trying to get the dealer to order a new shield and to replace it under warranty so I moved on and bought the tinted ZG screen.

From my optic, they are both about the same size, but the Buell is thicker and heavier. Probably why it it flew off in the first place. I'll admit, the Buell is certainly durable. When it flew off my bike it was run over by several vehicles and was pretty scratched up, but it remained in one piece. No rock would ever shatter that shield.

I'm using the standard plastic fasteners with the ZG and have had no problems. I don't know why anyone would buy the Buell over the ZG. IMHO the tinted ZG looks better and performs just as well as the Buell.

Sorry again y'all. Been a real busy weekend.
First shot w stock screen painted black. Pic taken right after installing. It's the first set Mark made, and is just raw stainless.

Next is a mock up from a totally different screen. Ran this for quite a while. This bracket set is when Mark was almost ready for production. Clean cut lines from stamp cutting. And black. Sorry it's a bit blurry at the "legal" limit.

What I run now is this angle with the Zero Gravity. You can see the flyscreen Mark made to help with the flex at idle. Almost perfect for cutting the shape with a band saw. This thing is so much tougher.

What you can change angle to.

Pulled up to max height.

Another from the front with the screen straight up.

In the upright position it's too turbulent for my height. Angled back and low is perfect. This is by far the best piece of equipment I've added to the bike. If it weren't for this, I'd still be searching for the right screen. YMMV.

Wow, thanks for the pics, so am I right in saying you have to switch out the flyscreen to avoid the shaking at idle? I think this makes so much sense, look forward to getting one!

It's not necessary to change to a different flyscreen. Just from my usage and Marks gut feeling, it would shake enough to stress the plastic flyscreen enough to possibly crack. Once the aluminum piece was in place, the wiggle room was decrease quite a bit. It still has some, but not nearly enough to stress the metal. The Uly still puts out the enough shake and shimmy to blend a smoothy! Mark felt the flyscreen would be part of the kit as it wouldn't cost much more to have one made. Just difficult to get the curves just right. Mine has a bit of a gap at the top, but otherwise totally unnoticeable from stock.

Well the big question is, where do we get one?

Second question is where did you get the added display for voltage temp etc??

Looks like Mainstreamer answered for me. I've also seen it in J+P bike catalog. As the reviews at the Aerostich site say, it's not waterproof. The thing was really made to be in a cage with a switch for inside and outside temp readings. Kind of B.S., but in the position I have it at it doesn't get overly wet in a downpour. I also disabled the speaker that beeps at low volts. The probe tells me just how hot it is sitting at a light in the Florida heat.

I like that bracket. It looks like it would work out just fine. Do you get any noticable wind from between the flyscreen and the windshield (through the bracket?)

Michael1,
No noticeable wind, but I have a ginormous tank bag that is always on the bike. If I put my hand right there at speed, yes I feel wind, just not allot.

This same concept has been used by the VStrom crowd for a while and most report that it finally solved the problem of finding the right protection / buffeting issue. Anyone interested can do a search over on the Ad board and find lots of discussion.

Is there an ETA on when we can buy these for our bikes?

Don't know Marks build time frame. He was working on trying to get Buell to look at his design and make it part of the bike from the factory. I don't see that happening, but as I said before, best accessory I've put on this bike. Hands down.
