Performance Mods!: | ULYSSES - It's my commuter bike, stock works just fine. THUNDERBOLT - Pretty much stock, with the exception of a ham can air filter and race ECM |
Problems/Miles (Please be specific): | ULYSSES: 2,500 miles - Tall windscreen flew off, replaced with ZG tall screen after issue with warranty replacement by Dealer and Buell CS 12,000 miles - Rear wheel bearing failed (required new bearings, axle & spacer) 14,000 miles - Drive belt snapped 17,500 miles - Turn signal relay failed, replaced with an EP-35 relay from Autozone 22,000 miles - Tear in front isolator (also replaced steering head bearings) 26,000 miles - Rear wheel bearing failed (required new bearings, axle, spacer, swingarm & wheel) 26,000 miles - Drive belt snapped (again!) 28,700 miles - Severely rusted muffler (grew tired of this feature, had it ceramic coated) 34,000 miles - ECM failed 36,000 miles - Side bag latch broke 38,500 miles - Cooling fan seized (more blown fuses) 40,000 miles - Replaced front and rear rocker box gaskets (front was leaking, so I changed both) 47,150 miles - Rear wheel bearing failed, replaced with new black seal type (time will tell) 47,650 miles - Drive belt snapped (3rd time, thought these were supposed to last a lifetime?) 54,450 miles - Throttle cable sheared in two due to failed bracket on throttle body 56,317 miles - Broken front fuel injector wire in main harness (major PITA to find and repair) 65,000 miles - Removed rear wheel to replace the tire, sprocket side wheel bearing dropped out and rolled across the garage floor. Recess in the wheel where the bearing fits is now over sized. Purchased a new (used) wheel. 66,000 miles - Replaced front and rear rocker box gaskets (rear was leaking, so I changed both) 69,300 miles - Shaft that opens and closes the butterfly on throttle body failed, replaced throttle body ($$ ouch!) 69,700 miles - Speedometer stopped working, replaced speed sensor 72,000 miles - Drive belt #4 snapped. 77,800 miles - Low fuel light lit all the time, replaced sensor inside fuel pump 81,000 miles - Constantly registering error code 13, replaced oxygen sensor 85,000 miles - Fluid leak developed at point where clutch cable connects to primary case, replaced clutch cable 89,000 miles - Left front isolator mount bolt snapped off in cylinder head. Extracted bolt (R rated session complete with numerous explicatives), installed new iso, new intake seals, new rocker box gaskets, and replaced leaky mainshaft seal. Also, noticed when muffler was off for engine rotation that the internal valve is seized and no longer opens regardless of how much force one applies 90,000 miles - Battery not charging. Replaced stator and voltage regulator (77 connector looked brand new) Misc - 6 blown exhaust fuses, 2 failed clutch cable retaining clips, several wire harness repairs due to broken or shorted wires, and other small misc problems. Amount of time in shop for repairs first 3 years - 14 weeks (several more spent in my garage) Number of times left stranded on roadside - 6 (God bless AMA towing service) THUNDERBOLT: 10,000 miles - Oil leak, replaced original paper rocker box gaskets with new metal type 15,000 miles - Bike sputtering and spitting, replaced intake seals 22,000 miles - Bike sputtering and spitting again, replaced faulty engine temperature sensor |
