i appreciate the welcome! it shifts hard from 1-2, 3-2, and 2-1. there is also some grinding from the tranny on 2-1 shifts. i was thinking it might be the clutch being too tight. any ideas? BTW, there have been a few, only 4-5 times but all over the last week, where i missed the 1-2 shift. hope this helps! | ||

The problem with the Blast tranny is that it is old style Buell - which means when cold first to second and visa versa can be difficult, a blip of the throttle to match rpms helps, as does switching to a synth oil such as Mobil 1 - don't use gear oil - if 3rd to 4th and 4th to 5th and visa versa are ok then the clutch is ok, it takes almost 5,000 miles and sometmes more for these tranys to smooth out because they don't get the power wear the twins give, just newbe shifting errors - lol - how many miles does your bike have, and when is the last time the primary was adjusted? Ezblast: "i" have to IMHO disagree with you on your post about the BLAST clutch/transmission ... It will take the beating and keep on shifting ... The is clutch basicly a racing clutch ... If you put the rest of the fiber/steel clutch plates in you have a 100 HP plus clutch ... The clutch basket is stronger than the XL/XB clutch basket ... "i" recomend H-D SYC3, "BUT" if you have to any other synthic oil of proper weight and quality ... IF THE CLUTCH and/or PRIMARY CHAIN ARE NOT ADJUSTED CORRECTLY IT MAKES THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LIKE "CRAP" ... In BLASTing LaFayette | ||

Actually that is just what I am saying - the tranny is so tough and the hp compared to the twins less than half, and so wear into smoothness takes longer. GT - JBOTDS! EZ | ||

Dentonbuell, Is your neutral light still on as you posted earlier? Hard shifting can be related to a too tight primary adjustment, go check the knowledge vault thread under engines and in the section that is titled primary. | ||

Regarding cold weather pants. I like to wear Carhart fleece lined jeans. Even down to 35 degs. I will not need overpants with these. | ||

Finally got all my ducks in a row and changed out my crapped out rocker box gasket. The biggest hangup was forgetting my key at home and having to make the 22 mile round trip home to get the key and back to the shop. little over 3 hours and everything was buttoned up and small mess cleaned up. Not too difficult thanks to the manual from EZ and the tips from the quick board. Now if the weather would just shape up again,,,,, | ||

Today I was riding and noticed that my throtle was really sticky. When I got home I looked at the carb spring and it seemed a little loose. I lubed all the lines and it still sticks really bad, any suggestions? | ||

Cables are practically brand new they shouldnt need replacing yet. Can the barrel adjusters affect it that much? | ||

Were they lubed when installed(practically brand new) ... If a technician put them on, probably not !!! There must be no kinks in them or they will go bad prematurely(as in installed wrong) ... Your profile indicates you have a 2001(6 years old) has the throttle grip ever been lubed(talking PREVENTIVE MAINTAINCE now) ??? In BLASTing LaFayette | ||

Take your throttle twist grip apart, either the Little Kid or the Big Kid had changed out bars on their bike and they left the plastic covering that protects the bar or the sticker for the bar under the twist grip assembly. It took awhile for the stickiness to show up. When I took it apart it was ap'parent' what the problem was. Check under the twist grip. Make sure the barrell turns free. Make sure the grip has not slid into the twist grip housing. | ||

been there done the sticker thing...wasn't paying attention, thought it was on the clutch side...first rain and it gave me cruise control  I spent an hour with my brother tearing down the throttle assembly and the carb trying to figure out what the problem was...felt stupid when I found the sticker (Message edited by xgecko on November 16, 2006) | ||

I need to replace the clutch cable on my son's 2001 Blast. Can some one tell me how to take that frame piece off in front of the side cover to take the cable off. Does anyone have the cable to sell me also? Thanks Waldo38 | ||

Welcome to the Thumper Forum Waldo38! Basicly there are three selflocking nuts and washers inside the frame that hold the foot peg support to the frame. A long 3/8 extension and swivel socket is what I use. Just move everything out of the way first(wires, hoses) Some have supported the bike and removed the upper shock mounting bolt and moved the shock out of the way.
