Just spent a bit of time speaking with Al from American Sport Bike about this, it appears that the factory shifter parts for tubers are no longer in production. I've got access to a machine shop that _might_ be willing to do both the shifter and brake, the linkage and all hardware. Who's interested? I don't have pics yet, but I figured they'd be billet aluminum with stainless hardware and most likely polished. Banke's were pretty popular a while back, so they'll be similar to that design. There's only so many ways to build stuff like this, but I don't want to step on any toes with an exact copy. I know there are some differences between year models, so I'll be starting out with what I have as a test bed, a 2000 M2 Cyclone. Mine's currently got a boomerang shifter on it that flops around like nobody's business and it needs replaced, so that's what's driving this for me. Post up, let me know if you'd be interested, I don't have a firm price on them just yet though. |

I think price would be prohibitive. But I'd like a Banke style set-up for my S1W. The one on my S3T has been flawless since day 1. |

What do you consider prohibitive for the price? If I order enough of them, the price may go down, but that would probably be upwards of 25+ units. I'd need a commit/pre-pay to do that many once the price gets sorted. Assuming my cost of $300/set, I'd have to lay out $7500 to get them made. I'm hoping it can be done for a bit less than that though. The machine shop that would be making them does some all stainless rearsets for custom HD models, they sell for $600+ per set and apparently they sell quite a few of them. |

And i believe from research here, the s2, m2 and s3 are one size, and interchangable... whilst the s1 and x1 have a different length/ size. |

Another thought; Banke is still an option according to their site.. "Buell Parts and Accessories We often get calls from prospective or even new Buell owners and this question gets asked: What do you guys think about Buells? Our answer usually is: Great usable power, great brakes, and great handling. All of the basics are there, but the bikes need help in the refinement department. So we're here to take care of those refinement issues and make a good motorcycle great. The following products are offered as top quality, easily installed, reliable and aesthetic enhancements for your Buell motorcycling experience. Buell parts are now only manufactured on a custom basis, please call for specifics. Many spares are still available in stock." |

Banke will make them one at a time for less that $600 a set. He's made a couple of pieces for me. He already has the set there, just doesn't 'mass produce' them anymore. I think Al said if we get 10 orders in advance the price goes down more. But the more choices the merrier. I really doubt if there's enough of a market left for $7500 in setup fees, but I would be happy to be proven wrong. (Message edited by jayvee on August 26, 2014) |

I can get smaller runs of them done, but they'd be a little more expensive. Definitely sub $600 for a set though, even on a short run. I'd bet it will come in under $400 for a short run, even lower for the larger run, although I will have to wait for the machinist to give me the final cost on them. Imagine if it came in at some really low number. |

Al just did this a little while back with a run of Banke components. I ordered a set. He may have a couple of sets left. Not to keep you from doin your own stuff Dean but might be easier and you would get the genuine article if Al or you set it up with Banke? |

Genuine article or not doesn't bother me all that much, especially if I can get it done right and for a good price. If they can come in at say, $250 for the same as a Banke unit, I'm all in. I'm not talking just the shifter either, I want both sides to "match" and look/function right. |

Looks like there's maybe 6-8 interested so far, so I'll go ahead with it depending on the cost. I have the option of either stainless steel or aluminum. Any preferences? |

I am interested in both. I was getting ready to weld my broken shifter linkage. I would like a new one instead. |

That "X-1" shifter, I can't see why it wouldn't work on an M2. I already have the chin cowl mount anyway. The connector between the engine shift shaft and the shifter can be adjusted as needed. Only the shifter length is a question. |

The foot lever is longer on an X1 by a few inches. X1 and S1 are the same, M2, S2, S3 are the same. |

+1 to what he said, an X1/S1 shifter on a S2/S3/M2 would crowd the foot peg significantly and you wouldn't be able to get your foot in to shift at all... |

Now that I look again, the first slot to left of the toe peg looks like a good place to put the toe peg in some kind of slider arrange, so the toe peg could adjust in and out. I been meaning to get around to that someday. Also to make the toe peg 'folding' back so a tip-over won't bend the shifter as badly or at all. The folding part is only tricky because it needs to fold 'backwards' of dirt bikes. If anybody starts gearing up for production, consider these two things please? 1. Adjustable 2. Folding |

Interesting observation Jayvee, I mentioned that to the guy this morning. I had noticed the 1125 brake and shifter had slots a long time ago, why not for this to cover more models and feet? Not sure about the folding part, but replacement bits shouldn't be all that expensive I wouldn't think. I will be proceeding on this regardless of whether or not I ever sell any. I want one for myself no matter what, so it's going to happen at least once. If it looks good enough and performs as it should, along with being priced right, I'd imagine I'll sell 1 or 2 anyway. |

What about nano bots. In case of a tip over the bots would just rebuild the peg for you... |

I'll probably go with something sturdy that doesn't break easily. Stainless would probably bend back a little better than aluminum, but I'll wait for the machinist's opinion on it. |

I had this made for my S2. I have never seen an S2 with Banke products so I wasnt sure what dimensions to use. I took foot peg to shifter toe peg measurements on my S3 to define the clearance for your foot, and worked the math backwards from pivot point on mount block to the toe peg on shifter to come up with the length of shift lever on the S2. I had a one piece mount block designed, granted its not as detailed as Banke but my intent was function and to ensure I did not copy any part from Banke. this does however have a left over mount block rear bolt with his button on it that I had left over from a used set up I bought off ebay years ago. the brouched piece for the shift shaft is readily available from American Sport Bike..xb style I think(?) and the connecting rod can be sourced through mcMaster. I had these sitting in my spare parts boxes as well. the bearing is a ceramic one if I remember correctly. So the parts the machinist made for me are the mount block, shift arm, toe peg, all others sourced from outside vendors. I suppose it would be nothing to simply make the shift arm longer to make it fit for the X1/S1 style of bikes... the machinist is the same one I had make the S2 side plates.

Regarding the folding concept, if the peg folds pretty much straight back, pushing up or down with your foot wouldn't fold it. The other thing is, the folding spring is really strong. The idea it to bend at less than that pressure it takes to bend the shift lever or the mounting block/bolt. Just guessing but maybe 100 pounds? I don't think I shift that hard up and down, but a tipover will put more weight on it than that. I did this kind of parking-lot tipover, and it bent the shift lever inward maybe an inch. (Just under the length of the toe peg.) |
