I have a 2002 Buell Blast that has been running fine. Suddenly driving down the expressway at 65mph, I started losing power and I began feeling a miss. It got worse to the point I couldn't get over 40mph. Thinking it was a plug fouling out, I changed the NGK Irridium plug but nothing changed. I also checked the coil and coil wire which all met the specs on the ohm meter. One thing I'd like to mention is when it starts cutting out, I hear this quick ticking sound that sounds like spark. Then again with a full helmet and a V&H pipe, I truly doubt I would know what spark would sound like lol. The bike hasn't been giving me any trouble when it was damp or raining so I doubt it's the plug wire. It does seem to cut out with a miss at about 35mph in first which I believe to be the rev limiter doing that but it just seems a little lower rpm than I would expect to be normal. I'm thinking it may the module or rev limiter but would like someone's advice who is more knowledgeable than I am. Thanks, Dan

Too lean, intake leak, plus stock jetting & aftermarket V&H - your melting down - lol EZ |

You might also check verify your timing just to be sure. I was having that problem as well and I did everything recommended here for a V&H pipe (175 main/45 slow, needle shimmed 0.05" w/ 2 #4 washers and verified the float measurement) and finally tweaked the timing a bit and it went away. If you wanna get the timing cover off without damaging the tab, I posted this not too long ago. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/201 64/675947.html?1334865349 |

Thanks guys! EZ was spot on, my boot broke. I got the super boot and intake kit, and now I have to get use to shifting quicker and more by the speedo because it's still pulling strong when it hits the rev limiter. Funny you should say that Bluv... I did the jets already but haven't shimmed the needle. With it running as well as it does, I'm wondering if I should go ahead and shim the needle or just leave well enough alone? Thanks, Dan |

"How much better could a few washers make it?" "How much better could the EBR race ECU make it?" etc. In all cases, after making the change, I kick myself for not doing it sooner. SHIM! |

Oh yeah... another one that I didn't believe people on. I owned a bunch of old RX-7s. I started on a 2nd gen, and went back to a 1st gen for a while. One of the popular mods for the 1st gen is to replace the leading ignition coil with a 2nd gen coil. In addition to a direct fire (coil -> plug, instead of coil -> distributor -> plug) on the leading plug, you get a more powerful spark, and you can run the trailing plug through the "good" half of the distributor formerly used for the leading plug. Yeah, yeah, a spark is a spark, right? If it lights, it lights, it's just the butt dyno being fooled... Then I tried it. And holy **** it improved things! It started better, idled smoother, pulled substantially harder, and just all about was better for the few minutes I'd spent swapping in a coil I had laying around. The car put 123 to the wheels when I dynoed it. Not bad for a car making 102 at the crank stock... race headers + race exhaust + mechanical secondaries + a carb spacer = some major power in a 2200lb car |

Thats pretty much what you get when you put in a different ignition on the Blast. Maybe not that dramatic, but you notice it immediately on start up! |
