I'm going under the knife (again) in the morning so that they can install a tube into the area around my spinal column to see if an internal morphine pump will help kill the pain from my sciatic nerve damage. I've had an electrical stimulator installed along side my spine (2 years ago) but somehow I'm more concerned about this one. I'll be off line for 1-2 days depending on how this goes. Hopefully this, and the following installation of the permanent pump will mean I get to put more miles on my firebolt from now on. |

Brian, Man, I hope and pray that it goes well for you man. Chronic pain management sucks. Please check back in ASAP. We get worried when you're out of contact! Did you ever hook up with my buddy that rides the R1 around Mexico? |

I appreciate all the good karma guys. It does help to bolster my confidence. I also appreciate the kind words. Assuming the hospital has wifi available I should be able to post tomorrow via my ipod touch, but it will be short because of the nature of the beast (small letters and sedation don't mix well) |

Good luck Brian. I truly hope this will be a success and will free you from the evil sciatic demon. You deserve it and you've earned it. I'll be sending all the good vibes I can muster your way. |

Good luck indeed! If all else fails, ask for the "Robocop Special". That leg holster is a great place to stash.... well, whatever. ~SM |

Nice to meet you at homecoming last year. Hope everything goes well for you, and you are back on two wheels as soon as the snow goes. Anyone know when that might happen?

Well, I'm out of the recovery room, but it looks like they will be holding on to me until at least friday for observation while testing things out. Hopefully this will work out and we'll be able to schedule the permanent pump install and have a good starting point for the meds. FWIW I brought some of this down on myself, it would be entirely possible to kill the pain via oral medication if I was content to sit in the corner and drool on myself, but as I mentioned in a post regarding Tim's riding habits there is a big difference between just existing and actually living, and I still have some living to do. With the implanted pump I will be able to get more pain relief with 1/300th as much narcotics without any dulling of my thought processes because the meds are going directly where they are needed instead of going throughout my body. The rewards are worth the risks even though those risks are pretty dramatic. Thanks again for the good thoughts and prayers I appreciate each and every one of them. |
