Pretty sure I couldn't buy the smiles Buells have put on my face over the years.

Too true. Court needs no help from me with such internet troll bait. The admonition was purely for your benefit. You operate with a scant understanding of the facts and then launch into public personal attack against a good honest man. A man of honor would simply apologize.

My mistake. Injecting yourself into the issue had me thinking you were the instigator. You'd do well to heed your own advice and piss off and let me handle the problems here as I see fit.

Sorry Brad, I just get tired of the same old shite filtering down to our space here. You've met me, you know Ramsey, you think we would stand around the campfire and listen to someone lecture us? You don't have to answer, I wouldn't put that on you.

Let me guess....holy cow? ; )

I can personally attest you can make money buying and selling motorcycles. Not always easy, but it can be done. I bought a couple of old 1970/1971 Kawasaki H1's (2 stroke triples) in the early 2000's. One for $50 and the other for $500. The one I got for $50 in that exact same shape today is worth about $1500. The one I got for $500 I could easily sell for $3000. So certain bikes, once they reach "maturity", can and do rapidly escalate in price. Maturity usually doesn't start until at least 30, and usually closer to 40 years of age. So most of the Buell stuff (except the rarest/early Buells) will probably have to wait a bit longer before the collectors really start eyeing them up. But considering how much character the Buells have and how fun they are to ride, combined with the fact that the company is defunct (in the mass production sense), I predict them becoming very collectible eventually.

On the other hand, I bought a 2007 Ninja 250 in near mint condition 4 years ago for $1200. Rode it 5000 miles and then sold it this spring for $2200 (with a bald rear tire even). Didn't do a thing to it except change the oil. Buying low and selling high works on newer bikes too.

I bought an 83 shadow used for $1200, rode the absolute piss out of it for 10 years, and sold it (well, traded it) for a pair of gloves and an insulated rain suit. Did it appreciate? I probably could have sold it for what I had in it had I not beat the everloving crap out of it before selling it back to the same shop I bought it from. But $1200 for 10 years of break-down-free riding was well worth it. I certainly got more value out of it than I put into it. Regardless of whether it appreciated, I appreciated it.

Yeah, but you had to ride a Shadow for 10 years.

With the exception of my TDI, it was the most reliable mechanical thing I've ever owned. Good times.

"I'll just be patient until the light bulb turns on."

...so Harley FORCED EB to create a frame that held the fuel etc? Cause that would contradictory to the HD way of keeping classic styling and not improving the performance drastically
Or was it something that HE wanted cause it would perform better for corners etc?

If youre implying that the HD shutdown of Buell made your tubeframe worth more...that doesnt make much sense. Its not like production numbers were affected for tubers by the shutdown, they'd been out of production for about a decade.

Now what WILL make your tuber worth more in the long run is jerks like me who take a tubeframe and alter them into dragbikes or those who drastically modify their motorcycles. Then, if you have a nice/clean example - yeah, it'll be worth something in the future when they're real rare.

Erik Buell had a liquid cooled, fuel-in-frame motorcycle built and running in...I want to say...1987?

HD forced EB to use the XL motor inside the "wet" frame, even though the XB series was designed to be a liquid cooled setup. Frame design was so far along at the point where the Revolution motor became unavailable, he was forced to adapt to the XL motor.

The fuel in frame concept stems from Erik's belief that every component of a motorcycle should be as stiff as possible (chassis rigidity), as close to the center of the motorcycle as possible (mass centralization), and held up by the suspension instead of being in the wheel/tire/brake/suspension componentry (lower unsprung weight). Also known as The Trilogy Of Tech - all of which were designed to, yes, make the motorcycle perform and handle better. He also (without a marketing slogan) believes each component should perform as many functions as possible for the overall machine - frame as frame AND fuel tank. Swingarm as suspension AND oil tank. Muffler as exhaust system AND jack point / skidplate. Etc.

Please reference the book "25 Years of Buell" for more precise details. It's all in there (and probably more correct than what I just typed above, from memory).

I'm sure that we all wish Erik much success with his new company and I'm looking forward to seeing what 2014 brings.

Huh, I'm just happy to see something new from Buell being talked about in the magazines. Cool stuff, thanks for posting...

...sorry to interrupt, I'll let you all get back to your name calling and such.

Essmjay, kicking dirt at the ump is a good way to get kicked out of the game, same as your old man may have suggested living under his roof meant living by his rules. Just another example of what has me visiting here less and less often these days... or is this just the winter doldrums kicking in early for everyone?

One is called quickly obsessed when he puts off getting new car because he can't afford both the payments on the car and the new motorcycle at the same time and winter is half of the year where he lives. Oh well won't be the first time I've done something ridiculous and I'm sure it won't be the last. However I did not read the article wouldn't really tell me anything new that isn't already on this site somewhere hop over to the ebr section sometime if you haven't already

"I am really sorry I posted this"

Why? This was probably one of the more exciting threads on here for some time....It got a rise from Court and that rarely happens....

I still want the 1190RS. Erik almost sold another at RA this summer!

However, for the money, the RX is priced right. Marketing was right on the money before as BMC, but they have to work on their dealerships! Relationships with the Buell community at the HD dealers will be well communicated this time around due to Twitter, Facebook, and the Buell community web sites.

I am surprised that, with the exception of HD dealerships that had Buell race teams, EBR chose HD dealerships again.

Me thinks some here are already suffering PMS. Parked Motorcycle Syndrome... Exactly! Winter is here and we are not working on or riding our bike(s).

I'm working on two secret projects right now. One is over at the machine shop as I write this, the other involves my garage.

I'll post up when both are done...with pictures of course }

If Brankin gets over here at Christmas, he'll be able to see both in person. Maybe even have a couple of with him!
