Totally stock the carb is fully supported by the airbox an the stock boot will last a long time.
I've had SuperBoots that have lasted for 10,000 miles before needing a replacement boot for them.

My bike is a 2004. Until this year it had only 162 miles on it. I have put 2500 this summer. I noticed that the bike now takes a few extra revolutions before it starts, and I am wondering if it might be a boot causing that.

Concur. Unfortunately in the cold weather states the boot doesnt seem to last as long and years should be factored in as well as mileage.

If I were going to, I'd change the stock boot every 10,000 miles, stock air cleaner or not.

Is the rubber in the Super Boot an actual OEM item, or is it heavier?

It's a modified OEM boot.
