I'll give it a shot....I hate the clunk into first when the choke is on and just got in the habit of waiting for the choke to kick down before taking off. When I keep the revs up, it runs fine. It's when it goes to idle at the lights that it wants to stall and buck.

Maybe I should just wait until it's warmer to ride......nah!

Rainman,
Definately change the primary jet to 45, it will run so much better even when warm. Also remove your idle air screw plug and adjust your idle air screw out about 2 1/2 turns from a light bottom.

Also, I would worry about not warming the engine up enough, all that friction, cold oil, and odd shapes things take on when cold might lead to premature scuffing of the piston.

What Swampy said! Richer fuel/air mix will help the post warm-up stalling.

Those short commutes are hardest on engines. That's just something you'll have to endure. The lighter oil helps somewhat.

Hmmm, I sense a problem.

I'll give the oil a change to 5w until April or so and try to avoid driving it below 30 degrees. It didn't run real crappy until 25 degrees.

The short runs are hard on it, but that's part of the nature of my commute, which is the only time I really have to ride. I may have to curtail some of it during the colder days.

I'll see about getting it rejetted this spring...the carport is too cold to play with it right now.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input. This forum rocks.

5w-no. 10w-40 synthetic is already a nice thin well flowing oil. 10w-30 synthetic could be worth a try, but not 5w. I dont think you can really do better for flow and protection than the 10w-40 syn. The jetting and idle mixture will do wonders (though I've already said that): ).

You can try 'double clutching' or pulling in the clutch several times before shifting into first or hit 2nd gear, then first to avoid the clunk.
As you said though, your commute is so short the Blast is never going to be warmed up (which is a reason I bought the Blast, one cylinder is so much simpler to rebuild a top end on).

try a quick rev to spin the oil off of the clutch. pull in the clutch, rev again and then shift below 40s deg.
it works good for me here in MD

Dan's Boot - aka the Super Boot is now pumping iron on the streets of New York! Awesome! Mine have been impeccable - doing jetting changes and carb work - got some Yost tubes to try out - interesting.

I must say I am very happy with both of my Dan Super Boots, and if your modifying your intake, or just want to protect your stocker from a potential lean condition - this is definitely the way to go.

Very Cute Baby

Alright guys i need some help

I have to relocate the key switch cylinder someplace else because of my new digital dash.

But i can not for the life of me get the 2 bolts out that hold it in.

It has slots for a flat head but that doesnt work at all.

And ive pretty much decided that is a 9mm(or around that size) but i cannot get a socket on to it due to the bolt being in a hole smaller than the socket..

What can i do...has anyone ever removed one?

Does anyone have this magical socket?

Help!

Yes, I've removed them and I dont remember any trick to it. Are you using a 1/4" drive socket? A 3/8" drive is probably too thick.

On the XB board they have used Mini Vise-Grips to grab the screw head.

Cut-off tool and replace with non-theft proof?

Craftsman 3/8" deep socket, 1/4" inch drive fits right on (pt#43577 made in USA). If the socket is a cheaper or of inferior quality, it made be too thick walled to fit.
2002 Blast, so I doubt its any different than a 2003 and I've havent ever had a any trouble removing them.
