Whew! That was Exhaustive!

You have two tire sections and two cam sections.

The tire section doesnt mention the front tire size 110/70/16.

Looks good, that ought to convince them!

A good portion of this writting is Ralphs - about 60% with info he got from others, then there is mine, then there are contributions from others as well - Its been there about a year now, just bringing it up to see if anyone else wants to add as well.
Personally I think Ralph did a great job gathering info that others gave to him, myself and others on this board will see their contributions as well as folks off board - lol -
All that said - I do want to say thank you to all that contributed - including my friend Ralph (Who runs the Yahoo group! and allows a BADWEB link as well) for helping to make this bike a great bike to ride! It has always been an honor to be a part of both forums, and for all the friends I have made because of both!

Is there any significant difference between a 2000 and 2001 Service Manual? I have located a 2000 manual at half the $58 retail-- but I own a 2001.

Get the 2000 - the 2001 is the same - except for the extra heim joint only on the 2000 - makes the book more usefull to update bike to 2000 standards if you wish - the 2000 the best yr Blast built for stock performance - lol - the parts manual is the same for both years -

Blast battery Harley part # 65948-00 also fits V-Rods.

The Yuasa website lists the YTX14-BS which is a sealed lead-acid valve-regulated battery but not exactly an AGM battery. This Yuasa comes dry with a separate included electrolyte pack. This is "punched down" into the cells and fills them. Then a permanent cap is placed and it quacks like an AGM but this is no AGM duck : D

I wish someone would clear this up...what really is an AGM battery because the Internet is full of dangerous and little knowledge : D

Doesn't a dealer have one? Try Interstate Battery company for an Optima battery. Don't use anything with liquid or gel acid, they are intended for straight up mounting, and will gas off which is why it has a valve.

Another Blasted Bad Feeling

Decided it would be more proper to bring my Blast issues over here instead of the main Quick Board, wasn't sure where to put it, here looks good as anywhere, if not, the BadWeB Emily Post can straighten out my etiquette.

History: fork started gushing, tried to replace seal(Stone Mtn got it to me in record time, rushing to get it going in case we made it to that Badness thing). Could not get fork apart, bent-replaced the fork(I keep thinking it out to be a prong, or half fork or something), then discovered the backwards front tire I asked about in the QB, got my concerns confirmed, got with a local guy who will have new Pirelli's tomorrow, so I pulled the wheels off tonight.
Now my bad feeling,
I know assuming is dangerous, but when one of the rear bearings falls out in my hand, am I safe to assume I have yet another problem? The bearing looks fine, the wheel looks fine, nothing has been turning, or gotten hot that I can tell. Could it be possible that is normal? Don't seem natural to me, but when I don't know, I gotta ask, and feel so fortunate to have you guys available.
Do I need to hit the knowledge vault and figure out how to change those bearings without buying the HD pullerputterbackinner tool, or is that thing locked in with the spacers some way that I just don't see, and I'm overreacting again?

I love my wife, she loves her Blast, and me sometimes. But when her Blast is broke....

She don't love NOBODY!!

I gotta get this thing on the road, it makes her smile. I kinda miss it myself.
Thanks folks
Ed

Having lurked around Thumpers for a bit and read nearly everything, including the archives. I finally found a new 2008 Blast at a dealer some distance away. Ergonomics seemed better than I would've imagined & so I'm primed to get one. Can anyone briefly highlight any significant changes over the last four or so model years. Or is an 04 nearly the same right on through to current ones. Thanks for any help.

Thanks EZ for the reply. I see you being very active both here and at ADVR. Didn't locate any NYC Blastie commuters there but I still think this bike makes lots of sense for my needs. Some days, traffic in NYC is so thick that you can't swing an arm wide enough to brush your teeth. Most 'moto-messengers' use Yama Zuma's. The Blast, while bigger and certainly way more powerful could, in my estimation navigate with that little room to spare. Guess my enthusiasm is getting ahead of my aquisition. I've checked out & researched so many potential options; but the Blast seems to have all the inherent qualities I seek. Standard riding position, good ergo's, decent power, highway usable, cheap to run, nearly maintenance free and nondescript in that UJM sort of way. Easy to park and not attracting a second look. Plain enough in an Amish sort of way. Am I wrong?

Sounds like you nailed it on the head - thats why folks usually modify them - to personalize them to suit their needs.

By the way - welcome!

Welcome, to the Badweb NYP797!

Remember to wear all you gear, could get crunchy with all the traffic, but then again, you are probably running around in traffic that is stopped!

Good Luck, don't expect a very warm welcome from the dealership beyond making the initial purchase so learn to maintain it yourself it is a very simple bike to work on.

Welcome Nyp797!
Just thought I'd weigh in. EZ's probably had the most experience here with Big City riding and the Blast, and I too think you nailed it on the head.
NYC=Urban motocross. I've ridden a Sportster regularly in NYC and while fun (not for the faint of heart though), it would seem the Blast would be better suited.

Swampys unfortunately right about your dealer experience and they will probably try and talk you into a bigger bike. I think the Blast is a good bet and you wont be disappointed.
It is possible you might find a good (Buell friendly and positive)dealer. They are around!

I hear there's a good Buell dealer in Rahway, NJ. But I've done my share of wrenching and the Blast seems a breeze. I'm of an age where, while buying green bananas isn't exactly a risk, putting off an attainable desire like buying a Blast is foolish. What's one more adoptable mechanical pet in the stable? Thanks all of you for the warm welcome.

I suggested a Blast for My lady's first bike, But not my Blast. Unless....
What if they designed a new 560 size. Take half the 1125R's rotax. I would trade up,!

Hey Guys I want to build a blast street legal flat tracker and would like to know what parts would be needed for this project so I can watch ebay and buy parts as I can afford them.

I bought the bike in november so my son can learn to ride and he is now moving up to a bigger bike.

I seen a picture of a blast flat tracker and is way cool,

I need a bike for winter riding and a flat tracker would be perfect for the winter.

So far I have a 515 big bore kit, cams, sportster front wheel, new coil, new voltage regulator, plus the rest of the parts that came with the bike.

Rebuilding The motor is first on the list but want to watch ebay to see if I can get some good deals,

I know I need a frame and would like to buy a used one but if not I will buy new,

so if anyone can tell me the parts that are needed for this project would be very helpful,

I was looking for a section on here just for flat trackers and could not find one so if there is one let me know.

Thanks

Mike

Thanks Xgecko I need to know about the suspension and wheels and other parts that are needed,

the picture I seen looks like it has sportster wheels both 19" front and rear, is this correct?

I have one so I can use it for the front wheel and if it is I can look for a second front wheel to use for a rear wheel?

I am trying to get a list of all the parts that are needed so I can look for them on ebay and save up for the frame.

My bike does not want to go from N to First, when the engine is running?

As it is now, I turn on the bike and start it in N. I let it warm up 5-10 Min. then I have to shut the bike off Pull the clutch in Shift into First and restart the bike.

If I try to go from N to First with the bike running I will hear the gear grind.

Given this information would anyone suggest I do the clutch adjustment first? Not just the cable adjustment but the other one behind the left footpeg asmbly. also.

Yes! Do the adjustment! Too loose, and it'll do exactly what you described.
