I was riding through some unfamiliar roads last night when suddenly there was a loss of power and the bike started putputting like my blast..with less power. Soon enough the engine light came on. Dark road lots of curves and no shoulder..oh joy!! I managed to ride if for another 4 or 5 mile to a gas station. All the while I could see tiny blue sparks come from the rear cylinder. As suspected, the rear cylinder spark plug came loose and was flopping around. Plugged it back in and was so relived to hear the roar or two cylinders : ) Has anyone had this happen before?

I don't believe I have. Does it look like the gas came out of the spark plug hole, or do you think it washed down the cylinder? Does your oil smell like gas?

What that means is that for 4-5 miles, you were spraying fuel into your rear cylinder and it wasn't being burned. Probably most of it was getting pushed out the exhaust, but it is possible that a fair amount made it past the rings. I'd change the oil and filter, just to be safe.

I knew Buellistic was particular, but damn...he torques his plug wires??

I had an old V8 in college, used to like to throw a coil wire that I made a little too short. Zip tie around the boot did the trick. Click-zip-done.

Crimp the metal clip in the end of the wire a bit so that it grips the end of the plug better.

I've actually had my sparkplug come OUT before (still attached to the wire).
I was at a local dragstrip and I launched and instantly it felt wrong.
No power, sounded terrible
I limped it back to my pit expecting the worst, only to realize it was a simple fix.
Im not sure what the cause was, but its happened once in 11 years (with that bike), and that was about 5 years ago.

Zip tie is a much better idea than safety wire. It's wider, so there's less chance of cutting the insulation, and non-conductive so there's no chance of shorting your spark to ground.
