I bought both my X1s with V&H, then replaced with D&D and love the sound. It's LOUD, but sounds good. (especially after bumping CR to 10.5:1) I didn't dislike the V&H due to volume, I just didn't like the annoying tinny echo sound and wasn't interested in repacking every 5k. The D&D has about 25k on it now, and has never needed repacked, never rusted, and never had a problem with the mounts. (i use the "Y" front hanger, Jegs exhaust clamps on both ends of the elbow, and the hardware and clamp from D&D in the rear)

Now my Uly XT.. It's got a stock muffler and I'd make it quieter if I could.

Different bikes for different purposes, each has a character of it's own. Each one sounds amazing in my opinion.

Just for reference, I'm 24. Been on a Buell since age 20, and I dislike people who ignorantly judge others much more than I dislike any particular vehicle or exhaust.

Ratbuell says "Get an EBR ECM for the power gains. You won't need a muffler, unless you just have to have volume."

Hi, RB. Not really interested in making unnecessary noise, just curious to see if the Uly can be made to pull as well as my T-Stormed S2. The Uly already has a re-flashed ecm, not sure, but believe it's a Buell factory "re-flash". ie: the fan shuts down below walking speeds etc. Fuel mileage isn't as good as earlier Uly's, so I'm assuming it's mapped richer for better power. Runs nicely, but doesn't seem to pull with the same urge I've experienced from my tuber T-Storms, even with it's shorter 27T/61T pulley combination.

With a factory race pipe my T-Stormed S2 picks up it's skirts in a very satisfying manner with a 29T/61T pulley combination.

Ratbuell says "I ran a Drummer and an old Race ECM on my '06 for a few years. Then, on longer trips, the drone was killing me so I put a stock muffler back on, and had EBR reflash the ECM for me. They put muffler valve control back in it, while keeping/tweaking the more aggressive maps. It runs better now, with the stock muffler, than it ever did with the Drummer/race ECM combo."

Thanks, RB. I might have to look into that. I actually like the sound of the stock muffler on the Uly. Nicely motorcycley without being obnoxious.

Ratbuell says "I like the Race cans on my Tubers...but am trying to find a stock muffler for my S2 just to quiet it down some for longer trips. I guess I'm getting old."

I've got a stock S2 exhaust system in perfect shape that I'd be happy to trade it for your Race Pipe.

Here was my $17 exhaust I put on. I took my WileyCo. elbo and mated it with a glasspack I bought on line. I then reused the clamps (by adding one bend in them). I have 500 miles on it so far and it has worked great.

Downside:
1. Heavier
2. doesn't look quite as cool as a D&D or other aftermarket pipe
3. The tone is not nearly as crisp as the old pipe

Upside:
1. CHEAP! ($17 vs $400)
2. Construction is very durable. No riviets or internal screens to rattle apart. Heavy gauge steel with good welds should hold up for a long time.

Koz5150 do you think you could get a video of the bike running? I would like to know how close to a D&D it sounds. (I posted one of my mod on YouTube and just put a link up on the thread I started)

Well, it is winter up here in northern Wisconsin so I probably won't be starting it up again any time soon. However I did sneek out for a ride the day after Christmas. I can tell you if you are looking to make it sound like a D&D pipe, this is not it. This pipe is much quieter at idle and even when you lay into it, it just doesn't bark like a good aftermarket pipe.

That said, I am thinking of picking up another pipe and looking at adding a straight pipe inside for about half the length. As my orginal WileyCo pipe ws dying (long story) I did this and it sounded realy nice.

I agree, the Vance & Hines and race mufflers and I assume the D&D are all perforated straight pipes inside. The stock muffler has a perforated straight pipe as the first run. When I cut the end off of my muffler and also cut the cap off the straight pipe, I installed the muffler temporarily to test the sound, it sounded very similar to the race muffler.
