Physics 41E, remedial physics for minorities who were screwed by the racist policies of ( guess which party ) who keeps insisting that these humans are too stupid to be held to the same standards as anyone else so their public school education was stunted to keep them likely ( guess which party ) voters.

I'm all for the class, I just want an honest name for it.

However, your "identity" has zip all to do with any aspect of physics, science , or anything else except your exploitation by hate mongering evil men. ( mostly very rich, a vital part of their identity, white, ditto, Leftists, ditto, of the ( guess which party ) )

Magnetism doesn't care if you are gay, or have any particular ancestry. Exploiting, hate promoting, people do.

Skin, hair, or eye color doesn't change the right answer to the math needed to build a bridge that won't fall down.

Some Tesla owners reportedly got locked out of their cars because the app was down

So you get locked out when the app is down for maintenance? What happens when Tesla no longer supports it? This is the kind of stuff that makes me want a car that isn't "connected".

I'm pretty sure this is unrelated...

Sounds like there's a key card and/or a fob, for use in situations like this.

If you leave that stuff at home...well....

There's a REASON they include the stuff with the car. (and I don't even particularly LIKE Tesla...but I like lazy finger-pointers even less!).

Some years back, my Dad bought a Prius, used, loaded, with keyless entry. He didn't even want that, but finding a Prius at the time was hard, they were in demand, so he took it. After a month, it was, besides the fuel economy, his favorite thing about the car. He is so used to it he's left the keys in his Honda, at the grocery store, twice.

While this "I use my phone constantly, for everything." trend may have passed us older guy's by, it's seems to be the number one decision making criteria for new car sales. The current 20 somethings and a bit older, don't care about horsepower, or traction, it's all about controlling the edutainment system, and everything, with their phones. Feeding Pandora tunes wirelessly is just the base requirement. Remote unlock, navigation, hands off cruise, in roughly that order...

So if your phone does the job, why carry keys? Or a wallet? The door bell cam, from Amazon or Google, not only shows you your visitors, they're constant surveillance cameras, and with a Smart Door Knob, allow you to live with nothing marring the trim lines of your pants. Pockets are decorative. ( soon to disappear from Men's fashion as they have become vestigial, useless, then vanished from Women's )

Never mind that Amazon, or Google, can & does take every second of camera view possible in their quest for total access and Deep File records of your every moment. Only paranoid old curmudgeons care.

If this gives you a mental image of a generation, shivering, locked out of their cars & apartments while there is a server glitch, or the app is being updated...you're not wrong.

( posted on my Kindle Fire 7, with no doubt a copy going into my permanent file owned by Jeff Bezos, a very smart businessman, and one of the known evil overlords in modern society, so rich, and powerful, that human laws don't apply to him. Rich enough to buy & control newspapers and multiple websites providing you with news and propaganda. Will this post annoy him enough to destroy me? Only his algorithms know. )

The app is a convenience thing, not the primary means of unlocking and driving the car. Two key cards are supplied with the car, and up to 15 can be activated simultaneously. The app lets you walk up to the car, open the door and drive away without having to do anything with a key. It also locks your doors for you as you walk away.

The ‘keys’ are credit card size. You stuff it in your wallet and forget about it until you need it.

So if your phone does the job, why carry keys? Or a wallet?

Because your phone DOESN'T always do the job. Keys and a wallet are analog...they work regardless of outages, updates, server crashes, EMP radiation, or zombies.

They give them to you for a reason. Don't bitch when you need to use them, and you're not bright enough to carry them with you.

(not to mention the very happy fact that analog devices on their own, can NOT be tracked like digital/connected devices can)

If there’s an EMP, your car isn’t going to work anyway. Unless your old wagon still has a points ignition. : )

Nice. I kept my points distributor for my truck, but after I put fuel injection on it, it seemed a moot point. I’ll be walking after the apocalypse. : (

So I've had keyless entry and operation using a key card. Wouldn't they still need a key card to start the car, or can that be done with the phone app? It's hard for me to see how they got locked out, but still expect to be able to drive, unless they keep the key card locked inside the car.

Either. Mine didn't come with a fob, but it is an option. I’d rather just use the cards. The app, a card, and a fob are all keys. One of them is required to unlock the doors and to operate the vehicle.

When you pick up a new Tesla they tell you to not rely on the app and to always carry a physical key card.

Like I said - don't whine when the shortcut fails (app), and you have to use "the way" (key card)...and you're too dumb to have it with you like you were TOLD to do.

Reminds me of a line in the movie Road Trip - "if this shortcut was SOOO good...it would just be 'the way'".

Surely there is some way to recycle these fiberglass blades instead of filling up landfills.

How about using them as wall segments for the much needed Trump Wall 2 around D.C.? Or San Francisco? LA? Albany?

Breakwater segments on the Hurricane threatened East coast?

https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2019-09-05/5-surpri sing-scientific-facts-about-earths-climate

In western written history, it's important to consider that the great Greek philosophers ( pre-scientists, some of them, and early engineers ) did their work in a warm period. Shortly before in cold times, there wasn't enough leisure time to write great plays and lecture on political theory, everybody was too busy trying not to starve to do silly stuff. Like write great histories. The Roman historians also lived in warm good days.

India, southern China, central America, there is a reason all these ancient civilizations grew where it was warm.

Contrast the Incas to the Hurons.

“The other panacea of the greener tomorrow is electric vehicles. Teslas, like all electric vehicles, are reliant on enormous tax subsidies to make them affordable to consumers.”

This is not true. The tax credit for Tesla is only a few thousand dollars, and is rapidly diminishing. A model 3 costs between 40000 and 70000, including tax etc. depending on the options. A couple of grand off is not making these cars affordable to consumers. A decked out model S is 120000. The tax rebate is inconsequential. Granted, that tax credit used to be higher, but as the rebate goes down, sales are going up. So to say that the rebate makes the car affordable is just idiotic. Mind you, I’m of the opinion that there should be no tax credit at all.

I think the "tax subsidy" they speak of is different than "tax credit" to consumers. The subsidy is from the gov, to the manufacturer, to give them a break on their corporate taxes as they "blaze new ground" with "green technology". This allows the manufacturer - Tesla, in this case - to develop and sell a model 3 for only 40-70k...instead of a more realistic (without corporate credits) total cost of 150k or so. But since the government subsidizes such a heavy side of the corporate expense balance...they can sell the product at a "discount".

You’re probably right. But I’ll bet those government dollars are not too different from all the other corporate welfare we pay. Were it up to me, it would all stop.

Look at the money NY threw at amazon to get them to build hq2. They expected to have a net gain, and they would have (until the bartender threw a fit) but it still amounts to a bribe and differential treatment.
