I dropped my buddies buell blast now,the shifting is a little finicky, sometimes has no trouble getting into 1st, sometimes needs several kicks. the pedal took a good amount of the damage- fell on the left side hard enough to bend the tip of the pedal. I"m seriously afraid that this is a damage inside the tranny which would require a huge repair> I'm hoping that it's simply a cable that got stretched or a small piece under the cover that is easily accessible to fix.... what do you guys think? i'll post pics later |

There, is a shifter pawl adjustment you can do. You must remove the primary cover to get to the shifter pawl, I don't remember if you have to remove the primary chain to make the shift pawl adjustment or not.... If you take your primary cover off, there are a few things you need to do in there to make your Blast more trouble free and perform better, or more better if you prefer....The info how to do this is in the Knowlege Vault in our beloved Thumper Forum. The shifter on the Blast has that large sleeve between the shift shaft and shifter, that allows for the shifter to move on the shaft without breaking too many other parts on it. It was a training bike afterall you know,if H-D(spit) had not spec'ed the thing out for Riders Edge training , I am sure it would have been a much different bike..... Welcome to the Thumper Forum! |

Yes - I would try replacing the shifter, before diving into the primary. EZ |

Concur! The bike may have had difficulty getting into first gear before you dropped it and a bent toe peg and maladjusted shifter makes things seem worse. Many, many, people have dropped their Blasts and bent the toe peg but havent damaged the internals. You'll see when you take the toepeg off that it was actually designed to bend more easily than the rest of the shifter parts. |
