I have been unable to fix the intake leak my Blast developed. Consequently, I have taken it off the road and will be storing it for a couple of years. I still have the X1 and I intend on picking up another bike sometime next year. It will probably be a Versys. I will use the X1 to commute this year & then the Versys will become the commuter bike with the X1 as the "toy".
I have drained the fuel tank on the Blast. Does anyone have any other suggestions regarding actions to be taken prior to putting it in long-term storage?
It is my intention to resurrect the Blast at sometime in the future. For now it will reside in my garage (attached but not heated/cooled) under a cover.
I love the Blast but finances do not justify fixing it right now (& I really want a Versys - so I am saving like mad at the moment)
Thanks for any input.

How do you know when you're a motorcycle addict?
When you justify buying another bike because the less than $100 it will cost to fix the first one, just isnt financially prudent.
Thats how you know.....and I'd be lying if I said it didnt make perfect sense to me!!! LOL!

Take the battery out and put it on a regular charge if you want to save it. Just take care when you pull it out of storage to oil the cylinder up and get the oil pumped through the engine before starting.

I'd say bring it by here, but your too far away, have you talked to Buellistic about your issue - he's close - and I hear a great guy in person - lol - just saying - your resources may be greater than you think.

If you are going to store it remove all the fuel from the tank, lines and carb. A couple of years storage will result in a blob of goop in the float bowl....

Gearheaderiko: You are right, of course. I am saving the tag fee & insurance this year: Both are negligible really. I am also trying to get the wife a new car, hence the saving. The car is part of the "new bike" deal. Swampy: I have drained all the fuel. The carb is off the bike. The battery has a tender attached to it. EZ: The Blast will rise again, just not for a couple of years. I think it will become my legacy project for my son to inherit. If I could get it to CA I would take you up on your offer. I intend meeting Buellistic et al at one of the TABOO rides this year. I'm just waiting for it to get a little warmer in Fla.
Later....

Oddly enough, my wife's last new car arrived just prior to my acquisition of the Blast.
Small world.....

I do not remember the whole story but I might have some free time in the near future and we are just down near Orlando (Lake Mary/Sanford area). Thankfully our house in Tampa rented in 5 days so that means we get our weekends back to have fun (aka ride).

Thanks to EZ, I have now become a CV carb specialist...lol. I used to build engines, auto trans, and custom lift kits so now learning motorcycles.

Our roommate is at MMI at the moment so he's often eager to tinker with things.

I also saw a 2001 engine on CL for $200: http://tampa.craigslist.org/hdo/mcy/2228443399.htm l

It would be a cool project to set aside until the son is ready. Those father/son projects are priceless.

Good deal - take your time, dis assemble, collect parts, reassemble, apply more parts - and soon you have a motorcycle, I would collect some key parts though while parts are cheap - gasket kits, bearings, etc. - what ever else you want to add to the mix as well - lol - besides thats why the dark side serves milk and cookies - to corrupt the youth as well - lol
