So i got a 2000 Blast about 4 or 5 months ago, it has about 7000 miles on it and i have had problems since day one.

After fixing a fuel problem and replacing my rear rim everything was going great until last week. i was passing someone (doing about 60-ish (not exactly sure because my speedsensor had gone out a week before) in 4th gear) when i lost all my power. the engine was still running and i had throttle control, but was not getting power to the wheel. shifting had no effect, and when i got to the side of the road i put it in N and tried to take off again. no power to the wheels still. i shut it off to take a look and make a phone call, and when i tried to restart it the starter is just spinning.

After getting it home and talking with my buddies (none of us are mechanical geniuses) i have been told that it is the starter, but logically that makes no sense to me, as the starter should have no effect once the bike is running. If you spin up the starter and dump it it the bike tries to jump forward, yet in gear (it will not shift above second, so i have 1,N,2 available) you can push it like it is in N. all this leads me to suspect it has something to do with the transmission.

What do you think?

ANy advice or info is much appreciated, i want to be as informed as possible before i take it to a guy or tear into it myself.

Welcome Blasted Man!

Sadly, since you've had no response to your post, my guess is no one has a good idea of what is wrong or they dont understand the problem exactly.

If it will run, but not move, its not the starter.
None of the gears work? If its in gear, the bike will roll?
Does shifting feel like its going into any gears? Does shifting it feel normal (as far as you can tell with your limited ownership)?

My initial guess is the shifter drum bolt (or any other related shifter bolt) came loose. It was a problem in the early Blasts (which you have) and should be easily found once you get the primary cover off.

It won't even start? Check your grounds - front and rear.

NO I think what has happened is that the crankshaft spline is stripped due to a loose crank sprocket nut. Sounds like the same condition as the Big Kids Blast so very long ago.

Pull the primary cove and you will see what is going on in there. You will probably find the crank sprocket nut loose or all the way off and has made a big scrape inside the cover. There are a couple of options if this has happened, but check it out first and let us know.
