Ok I see it doesn't look difficult to modify the headlight brackets. That really does look sharp. I'll have to look and see how to aim the headlight properly. I got a rear wheel assembly from a part-out bike and found a new tire online. I thought I'd give the Pirelli 130-80 a try, little wider and all. It's on there just waitin for some cornering. I haven't done alot of paint & body- how do you put that finish on the gas tank cover? I got some skid marks down the right side so the gloss finish is shot anyhow.

Uh...the 130/80 might not fit (though it might with a little hammer work..might). Use the Pirelli Diablo 140/70.

truth: The brackets were pretty easy. You just take the headlight off, dremel off the part of the brackets where the plastic windscreen mounts to make a triangle. Then you just take em off, flip em, and put them on the opposite side as they were stock-mounted. get it a little snug and then just tap them up to where you want em. As far as aiming the light, you can mount the headlight brackets and then just tighten the actual headlight just enough to stay in place, then sit on the bike with it on, and aim it yourself ...then go back and retighten everything. good luck bro!

I got the Pirelli Diablo 130/80-16. It's already mounted and put on the rear. It seems to fit fine. I read up on it somewhere on the Thumper forum. It had listed this as the largest tire that could be run without swingarm mods. Here's how it looks. Not a whole lot of clearance but it is clear.

see the pic showing wreck damage where the rear axle was bent & lock washer and nut completely gone.

Its too big and will rub on the swing arm, the 140/70 due to the lower profile will fit without modifications.

I wonder if the level of torque that the Blast puts to the rear wheel would be enough to make it expand at the center enough for it to rub that tab on the back of the swing arm?

Quick question guys:

Long story short: I have a 2005 Blast. After switching to the superbike bars, I've stripped the screw on the clutch lever that tightens the whole unit to the handlebars. What kind of screw is this?

(Also, should I get this at a local motorcycle shop, or can this be purchased from a hardware store?)

I believe its metric (8mm head). Any bolt you can get (at a hardware store) to work will be fine. If you end up stripping everything out, you should still be able to use a nut on the bolt to hold it all together.
Sorry, I dont have a listing for the actual bolt as it seems to be missing from the parts catalogue.

And now for something completely different. . . Has anyone tried replacing the stock reflectors with some sort of running light? I know that Ruel (sorry if that's misspelled - been a while) had some LED running lights rigged but I'm looking for something small enough to replace the reflectors. I've been cut off (to the point of breaking a footpeg) and bumped in the last two weeks so I'm thinking of ways to increase the visibility of bike. I had thought of buying one of the LED dress up kits to light the engine but that's not really what I'm after. Any new ideas out there?

Loud exhaust-check!

"Signalminder" can convert your turn signals to running lights and let you run LEDs in their place (if desired).

They make bar end lights and mirrors with turn signals.

You can also add another bar style light to your license plate frame as well as lit plate fasteners.

There are some small LED trailer marker lights that would fit in the rear location, the front forks might be a little harder to attach.

Add an extra light (or two) in the front. There are several options out there from small to large and the Blasts charging system can handle it.

Thanks for the advice Erik. I run a Xenon HID light (on bright) in the front but might add some LED "fog" lights as well. I think that the LED trailer lights to replace the rear reflectors are a good idea and perhaps I can do the same towards the front of the bike but not necessarily on the forks.

I failed to mention that the Signal Minder also gives you self canceling turn signals and emergency flashers (besides the LED capability and running lights). Otherwise $100 would be a lot to spend on just running lights. LOL!

I run dual lights in the front. 55w white and 100w yellow. A non conforming light set up attracts attention. I've heard (and I think its on the web somewhere) that a triangle pattern of lights is better than paired sets for attention grabbing. I'd add one light to go with my duals, you could add a pair for your single.

Funny you should mention the triangle pattern as I was just looking at a small pair of BMW LED foglights and thinking about mounting just below the main light to each side.

I will probably look at the Signal Minder. I also found a ton of LED marker lights for trailers that are shaped just like the rear reflectors and would replace them nicely.

I have seen them all over eBay these days. I'm not 100% positive but am pretty sure that you can use the PDF versions in the Thumper forum to make due until you obtain one (even though the models years are different).

(01Y is the year code. 05Y would be for a 2005. 09Y=2009, etc. 99.9% of all Blast parts are the same. I wouldnt use an 09 book for a 2000, but a 2002,03,04,05, etc. would work just as well as an 01 book)

You've got to contact sponsors directly. The least likely sale is someone posting on a Buell board that they want a part. Its very non-commital. Call them and be ready to pay. That gets it done. Its also very helpful if you already have the part numbers. The less work they have to do, the more likely you'll get a good discount.

The Crossroads mystery of where to mount the brake reservoir is solved - the upper starter mount bolt is used, the hose bracket discarded - a zip tie for the hoses, and red locktight for the reservoir bolt/nut. Works perfectly - looks like a stock location.
