Thanks, Ryan! While it's not my bike in the photo, it does look like mine. Don't hear enough love for the white Blasts.

Johnnymac-How did you strap your backpack on the tank?

I second that, Johnnymac, that is a clean set-up with the "tank bag".

Aleutian1 & Thumper62,

Thanks for the compliments. Originally I had it connected in the front just like the factory bags - strap through the steering head. I found this to be very unstable and the bag would flop from one side of the tank or the other no matter how tightly I cinched it down. The rear strap, like the factory bag, runs down between the tank & seat and loops through the forward seat bracket.

To stabilize the bag I had to try and triangulate it. I did this by purchasing self adhering velcro strips that I purchased from Walmart in the craft section. Using 1" webbing I purchased in Walmart's camping section, I cut a new front strap to go through the tank bag's bottom loops. Either end of the strap has Velcro loop side (@ 6" long) adhered to it and stitched just to make sure it stays. The hook half of the velcro is mounted to the outer front edges of the gas tank's belly. The velcro is nearly invisible when the bag is not mounted since the plastic of the gas tank is black and textured. It allows me mount and unmount the bag easily and stabilizes it greatly. I can take some better pics and upload them if this is not quite clear enough of a description. Just let me know.

When I fuel the Blast I simply unsnap the buckle I have in the rear mounting strap and swing the bag over the speedo. To keep the bag centered on the front strap I added another loop strip of the self adhering velcro to the center of the strap and the matching hook side to the bottom of the bag itself. Now it never slides around on me.

My new rearsets:

Old crossroads hangers and some of their linkage, Tarozzi shifters and pegs. I made the peg shift linkage, I will maybe do something nicer but for now it works.

Thanks guys, I am super happy with the final product. The hangers didn't come with pegs or hardware. Luckily I had those Tarozzi universal rearsets, all I had to do was make the hole on the hangers round to accept the pegs. I did that with a chain saw file in about 10 min's. Then I needed the peg shifter linkage to be longer so I filed a groove in the shifter tab and screwed some threaded rod through a clevis and screwed another clevis on the other end. Sycho, yeah I painted the raised lettering. I saw a picture on badweb of a dude that did it and I thought it looked cool.

The arms would be easy to make, the tough part will be making the spacers to go in between the arms and the frame.

My favorite road. The only thing that could make this one better is for both bikes to have been of Buell origin....

Hey Magster, what make/model saddle bags are those and where did you get them? They definitely aren't the factory ones for the Blast. They are a really nice size.

If I'm not mistaken, Magster's bags look like the Cortech bags. If I'm also not mistaken, the other bike in the photo looks like a Suzuki Bandit.

Johnny, Darisb is correct on both accounts. The bags are Cortech sport saddle and sport tail bags. The saddle bags are fix mounted, bolted to the bungee holes under the tail and using the Willie & Max adjustable stand-off brackets.

The tail bag is great for everyday use but is even better for my long distance travel. The built in bungee cords attach under the tail at the rear and to the frame just in front of the passenger foot pegs in front. When I get to a hotel it comes off the bike in about 2 seconds. Has a carry handle and I'm good to go. Lots of room, easy access and I love it. Plus it is not real expensive.

The bike is indeed a 1999 GSF 1200 Bandit. My husband picked it up for $2400 with only 8,000 miles stock. Since then I got him the Dale Walker hole shot slip on 14", he ripped out the airbox, put K&N stacks on the carbs, rejetted, 5 degree advance, gold x-chain and switched out the wind screen. After a valve adjustment he can just about keep up with my Blast.
