I'm not a big fan of chopping any Buell, blast or otherwise. But at least the ones picture here are well designed. That on eBay is an ABOMINATION. I almost feel like buying it to do a reverse mutant back to original Blast specs. Sad, sad, sad.

That ones been around a long time. Generally 'junk' like that sells for less than a stock bike and I dont think it sold for very much if at all the last time it was up for sale.

In a sense though it is an 'old school' chopper. Back in the late 60's and 70's exactly what you see was done to many bikes : (

Very interesting! I think you may regret going with the cardboard seat/subframe. One slide on it and it will slice into you like a rip-saw. One bump and it will crush like a cardboard box. Don't even think of getting it wet...

Oh, its not mine. I just ran across it and thought it looked alot like my project. Which is moving slow because I ride so much.

I ended up deciding on a Fat Bob tank because of the clearance issues at the engine support. Im having to mod the tank to sit lower like the one in the pic for clearance over the engine support.

And my seat will end up lower than that. But Ill likely steal the cardboard idea, to keep cost down. Think I could use a rope for handlebars?

As I mentioned a couple of posts up, that bike isnt mine. Just something I found online. Dont know whos it is. I love it though, and it looks much like what I planned on doing.

I just dont know if I want to risk my life on a Blast anymore. Maybe Ill come around again in the spring, unless I buy something else.

Any bike is a risk - a cruiser more so - a Blast is pretty safe bike to ride - IMHO - and I've had nothing but fun the majority of the time and over 40,000 miles - they are a Blast!

Yup, nothing like your engine falling out to define safety. Im sure I just own the only lemon Buell "accidently" built.

Of course it could be my 60 miles per hour, on a highway, in a straight line is just riding it improperly. Or maybe "I" just didnt allow the dealer to make previous repairs by "correct repair manual specs".

The front brakes locking up is, Im sure, due to my incredible grip strength that no other humans possess.

Im certainly mistaken....I dont now why I even try to participate here.

EZ, have I offended you in a previous life time? Why do you feel the need to contradict everything that I offer to this board? Would you like to see the medical bills Ive accumulated? The only bike related medical bills Ive ever had in the decade of riding experience I have, keep in mind.

Your certainly entitled to your IMHO's, granted. I would just for once, like to see you reply to one of my posts with your patented "I concur", like you do to practically every one else here.

Im entitled to my IMHO also, and IMHO the Blast has some problems that the over posted picture of your bikes cant cover up.

Why cant we just get along? Tell me what Ive done to offend you so I can apologize, because I would like to continue to use this wonderful forum without someone riding my back....Damn

One bike is not all bikes - if you can't see that - what then have we to talk about - why yours? There are no put downs implied or intended - shit happens in every brand - every model ever made -

My bike isnt the only one this is happening to. Several on this board has had mounts and bolts break. One poor guy has had it happen 5 or 6 times now.

Dont be so closed minded to think that the only time engine mounts and bolts fail, it is reported on this forum. There could be hundreds out there that we never hear from.

If you ask me, once is too much. But if that one bolt fails on two different bikes, its a design flaw... period.

(BTW, feel free to move this to the motor mount thread.)

How many Blasts made? How many Failures? Then sub-catagories - How many due to factory neglect? How many due to owner? I know JussyBunny knew why hers failed - popping wheelies all the time, another may be bad rework by the tech.s trying to fix the first problem - perhaps a bolt badly mounted by the factory - there is no put down in any of this - yes more than one Blast has experienced this - I've experienced it twice, but then I show my bikes very regular to hard usage almost every day. Why do you think I'm being down on you? Man - I felt the same way you did, but I don't let it get to me, I do any of that work now, and at least know I'm at least as good as 9/10ths the tech.s I've met - if anyone is going to screw the pouch - I'd rather do it to my self. I fully sympathize with how you feel, the frustration, the righteous impatience to be riding again - the frustration of poor customer service - you have a right to be a loud minority, because we do exist - however, by the same token - this is not the majority of Blast ownership - and it happens more with the used ownership group - and the majority of owners never experience it - thats the reality - it sucks that we have - it does not make us a majority - I'd like it to stop - we see Buell keeps upgrading parts - so obviously they would like to see this as a dead issue also - and that 8.8 grade bolt is the middle isolator bolt - I upgraded both side bolts to grade 8 as a matter of fact.

Nice - Bet Buell could sell tons of these.

Look everyone here makes great points, including you. Thats what makes this site so good. I know nothing lasts forever, not even a Honda Civic. And your points are well taken. I just personally have a bad feeling about the mounts.

I dont want to simply argue points back and forth. We just have a difference in opinions and Im willing to accept that.

I didnt mean to hijack this thread and would rather be reading about Blast Choppers. So with all that said, Ill shut up now.

If I was a non mechanical person who didn't know how wrenches worked at all, I think I would have gotten rid of my Blast a long time ago. Not because it had a total of 2 issues, but because I would have had to pay others to make it worse than it is.

Examples: Bolt broken in wheel because pulley bolts were not tightened down after a tire change. Wheel out of balance because it was balanced before pulley was attached (twice). Clutch cable leaking because someone didn't put an o-ring on the new cable. Bolt broke off in head two more times because of wrong bolt used. Exhaust broke because bolts were not tightened down properly. Air scoop bracket bent because the pulled off the gas tank improperly. Seat scraped up because they didn't care.

Everything after the clutch cable was warranty repair caused. The rest was me learning more and more to do things myself.

Here's one for you: (Not motorcycle related, but bad service related) Sears balancing and rotating wheels on our minivan took 4 days. Day 1: One of the wheels took 5 ounces and 3 runs to get it right. The mechanic was new and it was late, so I decided to bring it back the next morning and have an expert check the tire. Day 2: Left rear tire had 1 stud cross threaded. Do you know how hard that is to do? Well, it cost Sears close to $400 to fix it, and 2 days to get the parts. Day 4: Got my van back. They still charged $40 for replacing the one bad tire, prorated for warranty. I think I only had to pay about $10 for the tire, but they charge full price for all the work. I pull the rear wheels off to do my shocks and discover they did not use a torque wrench to tighten the lug nuts, and they also messed up the wheel and hub cap while trying to get it off. I weigh about 210 pounds, and was standing on the lug wrench to break the nuts loose. Some were tighter than others. I think typical impact wrenches operate at 200 foot pounds. Sounds about right.

So, where can I get a spin balancer for cheap that'll work for my Blast and for cars? Going to Google. Back in a bit ...

Nice mix of old and new and I really like that you discretely retained the belt drive. A LOT of work went into that bike.
