I am having problems starting and running my blast. Its my daily rider and i really like it I was riding the bike and it died on me.(A few weeks ago, been working on it slowly) I managed to start it (had just put new gas super) and as I took off it died again got off the road and at a gas station was able to start it and give it gas. it would die. I bought a new boot and put it on. I am talking to a buddy about buying a 46/175 to swap out the jets and running the pipe short (where it broke last) Now I cant get it to start. I flipped the diode and cut the wires and spliced them together. Cannot get the bike to fire up at the moment. will be draining the tank and checking the carb (Will be first time my uncle will help me, long time mechanic) I will probably leave the new boot in the bike and put the old boot in a case in the seat in case it breaks on the road. Do you all have any ideas on what else to do? |

it should hold 13.2 - with a 12.8 minimum, below that recharge and if it can't hold the minimum with no cranks, then get new. 12 will turn over but gremlins start festering - lol - checked your fuses, plug wire - both sides, plug, coil - those should be checked next. EZ |

Im going to tear apart the bike tomorrow to see if i can find stuff i checked my fuses and they all look good. Is it possible to just completely rewire the bike to run the essentials? |

I charged the battery tested it and its showing 12.5 and put it into the blast and it wont crank over i figure it might be the spark plug cables or possibly the starter |

Concur (for the most part)! If you suspect you might have a bad battery, try jumping it from a good battery. Your car battery would work, just not with the car running. A known good motorcycle battery is a better choice ( just from an apples to apples perspective). You can also try jumping the starter ( or temporarily bypassing everything and connect at the starter). Rewiring is a bad idea unless you are absolutely sure the wiring is bad (burnt, butchered, torn out, rat eaten, etc.). Its much easier to hook-up the starter and test it than rewire. PS You do realize that 60's- 90's is summer in most parts of the country or were you just kidding?! |

PS cranking over has nothing to do with spark plug cables. Disconnect the headlight. The plug is about 6 inches away from where it enters the headlight bucket. That will give you a little extra "power" to start, if dealing with a weak battery. |

Thanks Im serious this part of Tx weve seen up to 115 and in the lowest its usually in the 60's lol I think the coldest we've ever gotten (with the right temp) is 30's with rain, a hell of a wind chill, at night with a storm comeing. It dosnt get too cold here in deep south Tx. Google La Joya Tx, im at the tip I will try unplugging the headlight, I just really didnt want it to be the battery ( Thanks again you all. |

START Class 101: Side stand switch and the other RIDER SAFETY SWITCHES cause start problems ... Will not start, make sure battery terminals are tight(check every 5K as motorcycles vibrate) ... Still no start, pull lite fuses ... Still no start, charge battery ... Still no start, battery no longer has the start volts(or amps) or it is just too old or wore out because of poor battery preventive maintenance ... "YES" it could be some other simple thing(things) wrong as that is what TROUBLE SHOOTING is all about ... Iam Noone" |

Nice catch Swampy. Its all sounds good, but...... Spade, that battery might be leaking acid all over your bike and probably wont last long laid over on its side. Unless we're missing something??? |
