I find it fascinating when someone starts presenting a fair assessment on THEIR own bike they paid THEIR MONEY for. Chad said he has never had a bike without an issue. I would say that is unusual as most bikes and cars now days have one problem per 100 produced. I find clarksjw's post as most credible compared to blanket statements like ' Court = Buell has an excellent reputation in the industry and has' we know that is not true, or giving kudo's for Buell replacing faulty parts. DUH. should they not? The 08 vs 09 point may well be this. I have seen some post here that they have returned to their dealer 6 times for new turn signals and patted Buell on the back cause they were free. Thats not real world expectations for most people. In the real world most people don't have the time or the patient for this bike as a part time job. It's not that Buell just replaces their faulty parts, its making them in the first place. Pointing fingers at other manufactures mistakes for comfort sounds childish. The thread title was 2008 vs 2009. Saying the 2008's only had 3 recalls is far from an honest measurement of the bikes reliability. The discussion here is more about peoples dealer-pain threshold. Some seem to like going back to the dealer as long as its free. My time is not free so a 2008 is not on my list buy list at ant price n |

Far assessment on their one bike would be fine. Telling the rest of us we are blind or don't know what we are talking about is not. That goes both ways as people in this thread are also being labeled "whiny asses" on a neighboring thread if praise isn't overflowing. I am entering my fifth week of 1125R ownership. My bike has been in the shop for four of the five weeks and it left me stranded twice during the one week in between. This was after I made sure all the recalls were done and I had the cluster swap. I have been very patient with my "Pegasus Award winning dealership" service department, but frustration is starting to set in. After wanting a Buell very badly for 10 years, this is not the way I wanted to start this relationship. Being told I am a "whiny ass" isn't helping. This thread has proven to be quite an eye-opener as I have learned SO MUCH from this board over the years, mostly lurking and sometimes not. I understand how people are defensive of the brand since it has gotten such little respect for so long, but there is a particular level of venom lately that really has me wondering what's going on. I also know from the limited time I have spent with this bike that it will ROCK once it gets sorted out. I know that day will come. I just want to know when. For those of you who were early adopters and REALLY had teething pains, you have the patience of Job. For those of you who have had trouble-free bikes, count your blessings. Okay, vent off. I am going back to waiting for my bike. (Message edited by stevasaurus on April 22, 2009) |

You are very articulate Stevasaurus. I hope things smooth out for you very soon with your new toy. If you bought the bike you have every right to be winey ass, honest. I believe your post as its balanced with praise and frustration. We could learn a lot from people with your level of honesty. I would think there are many readers here that want a new Buell and want to learn more myself included. The factory personel, much dealer staff, seem to make the majority of post here, in particular when you count hand puppets. If you were in charge of a a particular parts design and it starts to get bad press you will post what you want your boss to think who is also reading these post. Some post are so obviously planted here it discredits the organization it also makes it seem like issues will not be addressed as they are played down and the poster of said issue is treated less than any customer deserves. Choose your words carefully Buell staff. If you do not address shortcomings its telling future riders it will not be addressed as its not a problem for a REAL Buell owner. |

Fresno, I've told you before not to comment on any/all my posts that are not addressed to you, or I'd have to call you a 'wanker' again. Hmmm, maybe the wanker is someone who buys a bike without due diligence (along with an exhaust and steering damper before even receiving the bike.) Then he has the balls the complain about it here and when called out on it, he won't man up and substantiate his point(s). "Disappointed with the design/egros of the bike." You DID buy an '09, correct? This means you had PLENTY of time to read about the trials and tribulations of the '08 model, no? And the ergos thing is just plain stupid. Sorry. sell the bike and be gone already. |

It was the same story for the S3. And it turned into one of my favorite bikes. It appears that "the day" has come for my 1125 as it is doing great now. Last Spring it wasn't well. A whole host of problems. It got solved by my patience, a couple of re-flashes by Buell and a redesign of the rear turn signals by one of Buell's parts suppliers (I hope!). In hind sight, it took damn little. Except for time. Funny thing about the recalls. It's one of the main reasons I like Buell. They are often quick to do recalls on their own without bike owners having to hold Buell's feet to the fire. And on things that the "big four" would never even do a recall on. Compare the history of Buell's XB12S horn wire recall vs. the Goldwing owner's fight to get all their cracked frames fix by Honda. Buell could have ignored the fifth gear oiler and no one would have known. 99% of the 1125s sold would have never been at 150 enough to see the problem. A rare problem for the 1% that would. The big four would NEVER have done a recall for or even admitted to the problem. Maybe a racing part in a few years or so. More likely just a general understanding after about ten years that for some reason the motor had a slightly higher than normal transmission failure rate. Buell recalled every 1125 for this. That's an impressive amount of caring for the customer considering the cost. |

Brap you are getting way out there. About one step away from saying that Buell is spying on us through our computer monitor out there. |

We've drifted WAY off topic here. The thread is supposed to be comparing an '08 to an '09 model. Let's just pretend that both bikes are perfect in every way. All recalls and flashes up to date. If someone can get an '08 for a substantial discount over an '09, is that a good deal? I say yes. |

I got a very early 08, in very late 07. She's had all her shots, even suffered a decaying camshaft that cost a month of downtime. I payed full sticker, around 13k out the door. There have been issues, but between BMC-CS, my Dealership and the other early adopters, all is good in my eye. I don't drink Kool-Aid, I drink beer or coffee. This is the most fun and gratifying vehicle I've ever piloted. Buell, as a company, has given ME more personal attention with this bike than ANY company I've dealt with in the past. Erik himself has signed my bike. 17.5k miles and counting the smiles. 08s are fine. Zack |

I'm with Zac, Spec and Ponti. My bike had a lot of growing pains last year. I took a chance on a first year and got more hassles than I had hoped but I find the end result worth it. As per what Zac said. In fact if I lost my 08 tomorrow I would prefer to replace it with another 08 instead of an 09. |

Fresno, I am quite comfortable with your responding to my posts when they are directed at you; and my last one was (but not the earlier one, which is how you earned the 'wanker' moniker). So I'll give you a pass on this one. But in future, I'll remind you again: your opinion about my opinion is not valid and not relevant, and I'll call you a wanker (if you even know what it is) every time you make an unsolicited remark about my posts. You're only entitled to your own opinion; you're not entitled to argue with my about my factual experiences and logical analyses. I'm not one of your girfriends. And it's that way because YOUR POSTS IN GENERAL are without any merit. They lack knowledge, they lack logic, they lack information, they lack comprehension, and they don't relate to the posts they're directed at. So you do EVERY reader of this Board a disservice by even opening your mouth. Better you should learn and stop attempting to assert your feelings as equal to knowledge. Your keeping your Buell, and me selling mine, won't make your unreasoned opinions worth the ether they use up in cyberspace. Shut up already. And if Blake wants to boot me because I won't put up with your, or anyone's, b.s., I will respect that because it's HIS Board. But as for you, I don't need any more stupid in my life. |

\off-topic...sorry.. They lack knowledge, they lack logic, they lack information, they lack comprehension, and they don't relate to the posts they're directed at. Really? I have done my share of posting after coming home from the bar, so I am the first to admit I am not the perfect Badwebber. Wow. To think my almost 2,800 post have all been useless drivel. examples. Please. my factual experiences and logical analyses. Lots of that went into your Top 12 1125r Complain List, obviously. I don't need any more stupid in my life. You have plenty of it already and I think that's an understatement to say the least. Internet bravado and ignorance at its finest. Red, you are truly a "legend in your own mind." Maybe 60 years in the Aussie sun has fried your brain a bit? If you are selling the bike and obviously dislike at least 12 things about it, why are you still posting here? Sour grapes? Trying to dissuade potential 1125r buyers as Buell didn't build Red's perfect motorcycle? \back on topic |

If in 2010 is when it all comes together I would gladly pay $16,000 to support an American company. I don't think purchase price alone tells the while story. Time = money too.} |

Interesting what a lot of people are throwing out for consumption. But no one is putting any real meat on the table. What is the real difference between an 08 and an 09? Everybody assumes that the 09 headers and injectors were performance items. But what if the O2 bungs were moved strictly to keep more of the marginal (manufacturing tolerances and materials quality vary you know) O2 sensors alive to the end of the warranty. Much better and cheaper than replacing them. I seem to remember that it was stated that the switch to the injectors was to "help eliminate" fuel pooling on the valves. Yet in the end it was discovered the it was a software glitch in the fuel timing that caused the fuel pooling (and most of the other problems). Maybe the injectors were ordered for this production run as a mere first step to solving this problem before the software glitch was discovered as the real cause. Not saying it's true but it's possible. Has anybody truly qualified been able to point to a real performance enhancement caused by these parts? A lot of nay-saying and fretting over what could likely just amount to a gear indicator, a alternator (with a higher output at idle), paint and a new pair of rear turn signals. |

+10 Unibear alternator (with a higher output at idle) Oh yeah, I forgot about that one. I wouldn't mind having this for my '08. Never hurts to have a little extra charging capacity! DISCLAIMER: I have not had, nor do I envision having, issues with adequate charging on my 2008MY 1125R. I'm just sayin'... |

My point exactly Unibear!
quote:Time = money too.
Yes, time does equal money. Meaning it would take me YEARS to save up the money to buy a $16,000 bike versus simply selling my current track mount (worth about $3000 and paying cash for something). I guess I fall squarely into the camp of folks who'd rather ride a bike with some flaws than not ride at all. I'm far more handy with a wrench than I am at crapping money. I don't mind fixing a bug. Most of the time, I never even go to the dealer. I figure out a way to fix it myself. Duct tape and bailing wire....it's the redneck way. |
