I know I could probable search this but on my way out the door for work. Going to look at a leftover 08 and an 09 1125r tomorrow. 08 is down to $9999. Any significant improvements to the 09's? Can those improvements be done to the 08? thanks for any tips

LOL, the '08 is worth $8,000 new. Shop around. To make it close, you'll need new injectors, fueling, all the MANY recalls done. Plus black and blue looks really silly.

$8K new? On what is that based? I think $9K-$10K is a great deal on a great bike, and I don't think we've seen anyone with prices better than that.

I think Clarkjw's perspective is in the minority here, and also very exaggerated. The 2008 model is NOT much different from the 2009 model.

For recalls, there is the vent line re-routing, extra oil jet for 5th gear, some frame insulation, and a new ECM flash. If I've missed something, I'm sure someone will add it.

ALL the recalls and updates would be done before the dealer should let the bike leaver their facility, so that's not really a factor.

2009 models have the O2 sensors located farther away from the exhaust port, presumably for lower heat and greater longevity. I haven't heard of anyone with O2 sensor problems. Some of us are disabling them anyway for tuning purposes.

2009 changed the fuel injectors. Perhaps the new injectors are a good benefit, but I can't speak to the difference. Mine injects fuel just fine.

2009 models have the inside of the frame insulated to address heat causing potential for boiling fuel. I had the problem a couple times, but have just richened up the air/fuel mixture to cool things down a bit. I don't expect any more occurrences.

Here's another thread on this subject to give you more perspective:

there have been a couple of dealers that posted $7999 deals here and on the internet when the 09's first came out but i haven't seen that price lately. local dealer has an 08 on the floor for 12,999 OTD without taxes and tag that has been there since oct. 9999+ is what i have been seeing advertised lately. i have not ridden an 09 1125 yet but am happy with my 08's.
best luck on your purchase!!

Yeah, notice how Ponti ignored all the threads about $7995 2008 bikes.
Also notice how many recalls he just spouted off.
And if the 2008 "injected fuel just fine" they wouldnt've needed new injectors and a certain banned poster doing aftermarket ECM tweaking. PM me for details.
Be careful who you trust. There's good info on this site, but also blind allegiance. FWIW, Court does not own an 1125R if he chimes in with his BS.

It looks like the prices really vary on the 08s. I paid $9500 out the door last month, $9300 for the bike, $200 "dealer documentation fee" (does not include title, etc. which is paid to the state). It didn't take much to get them to $9500. Might depend on how many the dealer has in inventory, and whether you finance it with HDFSI and at what rate.

Most of the dealers around here (New England) advertise a price for the bike, and then when they get you in the back room, uhm, I mean the sales manager's office, they introduce the freight, set-up, and documentation charges, of $800-$1200 more or less. So, as others have urged on this forum, always press for the "out the door" price.

It's easy.

Compare and simply ask your dealer about any recalls.

>>>>I think Clarkjw's perspective is in the minority here, and also very exaggerated.

It is. In addition, it is inaccurate. HERE is the information directly from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

Don't get tripped up my internet hyperbole.

I'm a nut about telling the truth and facts.

The 2008 1125R Buell with the Helicon engine is am extremely reliable and excellent motorcycle.

But then . . . that's just the facts.

I am trying to get a definitive list of upgrades and recalls for the 2008's.

If you have relevant information, could you be so kind as to refer to this thread:

http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/451582.html?1239718474

Blake has promised to post a permanent list to a FAQ if and when we get this done.

Thanks

08 OR 09
if you get a 08 for around 9/95...get it
ride it and don't sweat it...we race a 08...and freaking love it..all the bla bla bla...forget it ...the important part is the dealer you get it from...BUELL friendly dealer...very important!!!

+1 on avoiding a 2008, pay for the 09 and spend a little more time riding. One year newer is always going to be worth a bit more even if both had the same level of reliability.

I like the black and blue. Really wanted the red one but the dealer didn't have an R in red and 9.5 was hard to pass up.

I would gladly put my stock '08 up against an '09 anytime. The only mod this bike needed was a better map and thanks to ()'s spreadsheet, I was able to create one. My bike revs quicker than the dealer's 09, runs cooler, gets better gas mileage, pulls lower in the rev range is generally much more civilized. Very easy to tranform the bike into a very pleasant companion errr, machine. Also, props to you Court for your restraint.

Simi Valley H-D Buell (forum sponsor and Pegasus award winner) still has a new '08 on the floor for $7900, plus 20% off on Buell accessories for six months. I got one of their demo' units with 147 miles on it about four weeks ago for a smidgen over $9000 OTD. The only bummer is for you is that the People's Republic of Kalifornia will hit you with sales tax before you take it home and pay sales tax again.

Then again, my bike's been in their service department for three out of the four weeks and stranded me twice the one week I had it, but that's a topic for another thread . . .

FWIW,
Paid $9405 OTD for my 2008 1125R in Stonemoutain GA. August 2008.

Court, you've never done anything for me or anyone I know. Many on this board may owe you debts, but I'm not one of them.

When I asked you to talk to Buell about the fueling/switch to 2009 injectors (this was well b4 your stop at Liberty to promote the book), you ignored me. So while you claim to help everyone, I've seen no evidence. People on this board were hating non highway ranger and banned a guy who tunes the 1125r with ECM spy.

Oh, and how many miles do I have on my 1125R?

I think we may be better served listening to Clark. Because he is saying what many people 'none 1125' owners are thinking.

Since 2008 was the first year release demand should have cleared these out by now. Demand will not go up from here unless changes are made. So why are the 08's still for sale? Even with slower sales a new entry should be cleared out unless it did not hit the mark.

Don't shoot the messenger. He even owns one for gods sake. It is what it is.

Why? I've tuned it and it runs great. No thanks to anyone currently on this board ; )

Not liking court doesn't mean I hate my bike.

I've continued to say, Buell should step up with an injector swap kit. I guess saying anything negative about Buell = hate the bike?

You do realize that Court doesn't officially work for Buell and/or HD, right?

You do realize that his track record for helping folks who are POLITE is pretty dang impressive, right?

You do realize that your 'request' of making an 'upgrade kit' consisting of new injectors and ECM mapping has a whole host of issues from a business/government perspective that Court doesn't control, right?

You do realize the 'ban' on the BWB member was Blake's decision and not Court's, right?

Passion is good & to be applauded at times, but being polite in our interactions with others here should be a given.

thanks for all the, umm, info? Didnt mean to start a war. To be totally honest, I was/am leaning more towards a Yamaha or Suzuki. I work at the HD plant in York and while I cant bring myself to buy a Harley, thought maybe I would keep it in the family with a Buell. I dont necessarily need a super fast bike. Will be more for comuting than anything. I'll probably still go ride the bike to get the tire gauge and bike lock. I ask the dealer about the 09 channges and see if he can do better on the price.
