Jim - you need a RAN again? What dates are you traveling? I should be home should you need extra assistance while traveling.

I've arrived at my mothers house in Asheville.

Some day I will learn that the appropriate way to pack rain gear is NOT to go on the assumption that it isn't going to rain.

I have never seen so much rain fall down as I did between Winston-Salem and Statesville. The cars were all in the right lane running 10 mph with their hazards on. I tried following them, but I was afraid I would get run over, particularly when the trucks would go by and cover me with water. So I ran in the left lane. Cleared up after Statesville, and Asheville hasn't had a drop of rain. Other than what I dumped out of my boots. Fortunately Mom has a dryer.

someday you'll realize that "rain gear" is so last century. : )

as luck would have it, you'll be going right by Aerostich on your journey. swing by their showroom, find a Roadcrafter that you like, and never ride wet or cold again!

Sunrise over Knoxville.

I enjoy that time of the day. I'm told there are three other people on the planet who do also. But I've never met them.

A moment in KY.

As I was passing through Indianapolis, it occurred to me that Dave lives there. Is that right?

It is rather cold today, which I find odd for late July. I was so hot the last time I came up here, that the only piece of gear I packed was one mesh jacket. I don't even have any long sleeve shirts. I will fix that tonight.

Jim, i've got the one-piece Roadcrafter, and like it a lot, but many times wish i had a two-piece suit for the ease of simply pulling off the jacket instead of the entire suit during short stops on the bike.

as such, if i had it to do over again, i'd strongly consider the Darien.

Aerostich suits are top-notch, as is their service before and after the sale.

above, are you referring to Dave Stueve? if so, he's up in Iowa.

I've got several including one-piece and two piece Roadcrafters and the Darien.

For XC or all day travel I'd go with a Roadcrafter. The 1-piece is the cat's meow for distance riding and the all day jaunt.

The Darien is dandy for the "riding around" stuff. Accordingly mine is in the High-Viz Yellow (hey, consider where I ride!).

The thing about Aerostich that will capture you is that they are so well thought out and built. Once you get one you'll wonder why you waited. . they are amazing.

I've gotten several nice letters from Andy Goldfine thanking Erik and I for providing them with great "test data" under real world conditions and the entertainment we've provided their staff. No kidding, they laugh at us. Erik just popped for a new one, the last one was "worn" beyond repair.

Take a look at them . . . . you'll thank Ferris and I.

If your in the area, and the timing is right, maybe you can stop for a free dinner!

You might want to check out the HD FXRG gear, comes with a 5 year warranty. I like it better than my old Darien. Only comes in black tho. Prefer the fabric but it comes in leather also. Lots easier to get replaced while traveling.

Two events of note happened today.

I stopped in La Porte to see Dave. He gave me a great tip for a lunch place. : )

The bike Rolled 46k right outside Eagan, MN. They had closed the shoulder but I was able to take an exit to get the picture. 20 miles later and I was in my hotel. The bed feels SO nice.

Thanks for the offer Bluzm2. My route looks to be up and down I-35. I'll be at the lightning run tomorrow on a Red & Black Uly. If you're out that way please say hello.

Yea! I don't have to get up and ride 700 miles today. : )

I've seen two Buells in the wild so far. I'm rather amazed that they are so rare. There was a red Firebolt ridden by a chick with dreadlocks flying. Then last night on my way to dinner I saw some sort of XB.

Will be interesting to note if I see any today. I'm taking the camera.

Left Minnesota heading down to Nashville on Sunday Morning. Remember all those floods they were having in the midwest? I know why. It's cause it rains there all the time. The thunderstorms are pretty over the plains though, if you can get past the wet part. You don't notice it after a while.

I spent the night near the Missouri line, and the next day had better weather. I stopped in St. Louis and actually got to tour the arch this time. The river was high, but not flooding. Then continued on my way to Nashville. It was a long ride, but I got a good picture. : )

Tuesday I spent in Nashville. I'd been through the city, but never looked around. I went through the Country Music Museum. I'm not a huge country music fan, so I didn't really have anything I wanted to see, nor too many expectations of what it should be like. I was blow away by how good it was.

The highlight of the museum was a tour of a place called RCA Studio B, which is a recording studio RCA operated up until 1977. Lots of famous stuff was recorded there, included over half of Elvis'es stuff.

They had a recorded narration by someone from the Jordan Airs about what it was like to record music with Elvis, and after that they showed us the studio where it was all recorded, including the piano Elvis played on. I was standing there thinking "I bet that piano is worth millions of dollars." Then the tour guide says "we are going in there now, feel free to play the piano if you want." I couldn't believe they let people in the room, much less touch things. It was cool.

Apparently after RCA closed the studio, it was bought by the Curb Family Foundation and is leased to the museum for $1.00 a year, with the stipulation that Belmont University music students can use it for free. So it's still a functioning studio, and if you go to Belmont University, you can learn on the same equipment Elvis used. How cool is that.

A trip to Nashville would not be complete with out visiting FT_BSTRD. Tuesday night we got together at an old steak house for dinner. It was fantastic. It was one of those places where the owner greets you at the door and the waiter is a lifetime employee. Dinner was excellent. So was the company.

I drove by it today.
I was going to go across it from N to S but the traffic on W bound 94 was HORRIBLE, I took a shortcut through the north side of town.
I did see it, it looked quite impressive.
