Came for the bikes, will always stay for the people.

Will Buells be the only bikes I ever own/ride? No way. Hell, right now I'm looking at Yamaha for both another sport bike ('99 R6) and a sport tourer (FJR1300) for longer rides with my girl on the back.

Will I continue to come here and go riding with the people I've met becuase I own two Buells?

Hell yes.

I'm a Harley guy - and then I bought the Buell just because I like the looks of the Mill X1 (silver). There won't be a day where I "move up" to a BMW, or a Yamaha/Honda/Kawasaki for that matter. I don't see that as moving up, although those R1's and the other new liter bikes are serious machines. Just not for me....

Love that R1 and would love to ride one for a while but the ergo's aren't much different than an XBR so that eliminates it from my potential stable. Still, I WANNA FEEL THE RUSH !!!

Bill, Di definitely wouldnt like the passenger seat, I think its just there for looks. The padding is about 1/4" thick & both the wife & her sister didnt like sitting way up there at all.

Thats fine with me, for all I care the rear pegs can come off.

And feel the rush? Not yet I havent, gonna break her in nice & gentle then see what she's made of. Havent even gone above 4500 rpms yet.

Dyna...You may be right about Di and the R1. Just remember that she likes the X1 with the stock solo saddle even more than the Pegasus two-up saddle. Hmmmm...Wonder wonder what Siggy Freud has to say about that?

I still like the rheostatic control of power in the twisties that the twins provide, but sure miss feeling my eyeballs mashed against the back of my head when in WFO mode on an inline four.

Not much a mere mortal can buy to feel that kind of adrenalin rush, eh?

I'd like to think I'm on the "home team" but I feel like a bench warmer most of the time. The reality is that there isn't a home team. If you have a problem with your Buell, you're on your own. The dealers don't know and tragically, they don't care. With the development of accessories like the XB12 race kit and chrome footpeg brackets, I'm beginning to wonder if Buell even cares. I felt the same way about my Cyclone, but I cut the Cyclone some slack because it was an older design. I really felt like Buell had it right when I bought my XB. Now, with ~25k miles on various Buells, I can't help feeling jilted.

The bike has some brilliant design ideas, but along with those ideas come some strange quirks. Some days I can ignore the quirks and enjoy the bike as it was intended, other days I get frustrated dealing with the same issues and I'd rather own a "normal" bike.

I know if I ever sold the bike I'd miss it terribly. There isn't another bike on the market that could truly replace my Firebolt (or my Cyclone).

I felt a little touch of that rush earlier. The wife & I had both bikes out for a little ride & we were doing 50mph on highway 50. I was in 3rd gear & decided to just open her up a bit & see what the rush was like. OMG!!!! In about half a blink of an eye the digital speedo registered 110 just with a slight twist of the wrist.

Felt real good

Hahaha...Just wait until it is broken in and you can ride the "High Range." Then you will know why they put such awesome brakes on that bike!

Only suggestion, and I am sure you already know this, practice on the straights, then the sweepers and lastly the twisties until you get the feel and timing for acceleration, deceleration and braking. Compared to the X1, it is way too easy to enter and exit too hot and miss your apex while sliding either/both ends under braking or acceleration.

Is probably the reason I still like my X1 as I can ride it fast and smooth compared to when I was playing "stretch the chain" with my Yamaha. All the power didn't mean a thing if I missed the apex. Heck, I had to run WFO to catch up in the short straights and that was more work than it was worth until one day a few of the fast BMW Guys took me out and taught me some valuable lessons.

Oh God, am I jealous. I would learn to love those ergo's even at this old age. Actually the ergo's aren't that bad. My stomach and back muscles are still capable of handling it. It's the carpal tunnel I would have to work on and the best way to cure that is to get off this stupid computer and start riding. LOL

Actually its not bad on the wrists, I will be putting on a set of gel grips real damn fast tho. Its actually the neck that gives me the most trouble...course that also has a lot to do with having broken my 3rd vertebrae & being in traction for 3 months many many years ago.

Ah yes... the neck. Even with the "standard" seating position of my S3, my neck bothers me after a while. Having to lift my head up and back does my neck in... but I endure... it's worth it. My neck is why I probably won't ever consider anything with "racier" ergos than my Buell. Unless it's a track bike.

Enjoy the new bike, Dyna! : )

One thing I really like about my X1 is that it is easy to ride in the twisties. The torque and ergo's make it a joy to run fast and smooth. Oh sure, I miss the rush of an Inline 4 but now I enjoy the purist feeling of making a V-Twin do its thing.

I concentrate on style and apexes more and rely less on running at warp speed in the straights and extreme braking while setting up for the next turn. I find this also saves me a bunch on the speeding tickets as the radar is usually in the straights and not in the twisties. The additional benefit is my X1 will last a lot longer and I won't be pushing it home. LOL

Hmmm...Must be getting old, eh? Not really, I just developed an adversion to EMT's and being airlifted to the hospital. Over 11 years since the last episode and I am still in daily pain which unfortunately seems to get worse as I get older. Duh...

The "key" to long hours on a sportbike is a full tankbag fastened on with straps so it can't move around. Rest the front of your chest against it and relieve the weight on your wrists. I like RKA's bags. I have ridden from Fl to Canada and Fl to Calif and returned with multiple 600-700 mile days on a ZX7 which has the same racer drop position. Got sore in my legs and knees from keeping them bent.

Curt, that works ok if you are a shorter person, but for someone 6'+ then it sux. I tried doing that with my X1 & I just ended up with my head hanging over the windscreen looking down at the fron tire: D

There isnt a bike made that I have to lean forward to hold the bars. Stinkin gorilla arms.

Take a look at RKA's bag, that pocket at the back of the bag, when it's full, soft things like gloves and a rag and the main bag is full, my chest rests on it and my back is fairly straight up and down, with just the natural curve of my spine. Now my weight isn't resting on the bars and I can hang them loose and the hands don't go numb so much. I am shorter with shorter reach, 32-33 sleeve length, but I would think it would help anyone to not have to support your weight on your palms. This is after I had my wrist done for carpal tunnel syndrome after 20 years or so riding motos. Mine needed done after I found out in a severed tendon work accident in my old newspaper printing shop.
