You seriously think Erik had a hand in the marketing campaign?
Other than someone saying, "Here Erik, sign this cube, it's gonna be great!"
Seriously?

ABSOLUTELY.

He wouldn't have done a 2:20 video about it "without noticing" what was going on.

I seriously doubt that man does ANYthing "without noticing". Or analyzing. Or factoring cause/effect. Or cost/value.

And again...WATCH THE VIDEO. Erik NEVER "slams" the Blast. I agree, the method is extreme...but listen to what he says. The way I hear it is, he's sorry to see it go; he respects it for what it is; it's just time for it to go.

Again. I suspect the fanfare is to make sure we're paying attention. What good would letting it slip away quietly do, when it comes to a replacement? Grab our attention, make us angry - that way we don't miss what's next.

I'm waiting for Act II. He hasn't done us wrong yet...I seriously doubt he'd start now.

You know, if they do stop Blast production altogether, it would definitely explain how Mac Motorcycles is going to get their hands on the engines for their bikes.

Since the Mac bikes were announced a couple of months ago, maybe all this was planned in advance. I just e-mailed Mac and asked; it'll be interesting to see if I get a reply.

Man, I've been so tempted to post "Wow, has anybody checked buell.com TODAY?!!! Holy Crap!" followed by another Rick roll, but that would probably be a good way to get my tires knifed at Buelltoberfest...

Yea but that doesn't mean he has control over it. I recall he thought the marketing of the TT was a joke. He said so.

You also didn't see him on camera personally, doing any of that marketing (on the TT).

My take on him is, if you see his face on it and hear his voice talking about it...it means something to him personally.

I'm more inclined to believe Harley is making room for that "other" mc company they own, NOT MV. Three steps of sport bikes with Buell in the middle. One small step in a long plan towards the GM of motorcycles. Hopefully with better people running the show.

The Macs are cool bikes, but at that price range there are other cool Euro singles out there as well, and none would be coming to America - I wish they where though, because there are some really cool singles out there in Europe, The Derbi Mulhacen 659 is one cool example, and there are a lot of others as well, the KTM690 Duke, etc. - Airel are talking about producing a supercharged single - In America - nada - its just pathetic.

Interesting, I already received a reply from Mac:

"many thanks for your e-mail about Buell stopping production of the Blast, please would you let us know where you saw this and we'll investigate."

I just sent them the link to the page at Buell.com. Hmmm.

WOW, the add campaign must be working! I have never seen this many posts in such a short time in the years I have been on this site. I didn't know so many BadWeb'ers cared so much about the Blast!

This thread, about the potential loss of the Blast, has scored waaayy beyond the recent loss of Michael Jackson!
Amazing!

WTF is definitely the appropriate response, I consider this a mistake as much as the M2 on the meat hook by the side of beefs

A hell of a way to say good buy to the Tubers, but the XB was a definite improvement - the problem here is no direct replacement, a performance single would rock, and give those Euro ones at 3 times the price a run for their money, yet the only choice is the 9, and though still simpler to maintain than other bikes in its league, and in the new all black cool as hell looking, it is not an ultra light performance single.

So far, I havent seen any linkage between HD and their Italian partners. If you go to HD's web site you can find links to Buell but I havent seen any to MV. If I hadn't read the press release about HD's purchase of MV I wouldn't believe it.

EZ,

That is a 1999 M2 on the meat hook. That ad highlighted the "meaty" torque of the M2 with the new-for-1999 Thunderstorm heads. That ad was not a farewell to the Tubers.

The Cagiva website says there are currently no motorcycle models available for the North American market.

"The Cagiva website says there are currently no motorcycle models available for the North American market."

Let me get this straight.. Buell has dropped it's oldest model from the lineup and Cagiva doesn't have a single motorcycle available in the U.S. ?

I think it's safe to assume that HD Inc. is cannibalizing their own subsidiary sportbike companies for a shot at the furniture business!

I bet, BMC is still going to make the Blast... it just doesn't rate the Buell name tag

The guy started a company building a 750cc 2 stroke race bike...
Its taken over 25 years but the tree is starting to produce some fruit.

I was told by someone who sells a lot of Buells, that the only way they could get Blasts was as an RE bike and then 'decommission' them to sell them to those that wanted one.

(I dont know if that had been covered. I havent been able to keep track of the enormous volume of posts about a little bike that seemingly nobody, until now, gave a darn about.)
It also seems that this site has always had an inside line to some rumors going on at Buell/HD. I cant recall anything of late even hinting of a Blast 'replacement' (replacement doesnt actually fit as it was strongly hinted (LOL) that Buell was sportbike company). Realistically, many of us have been waiting for an update or simple stop to production for a few years now. The surprise is certainly not that they stopped production (if thats indeed what they did) or that we're beating the table that they did, but in how they did it. In case anybody really missed the point of what this is hubub is really all about. Did Buell really want us all to focus on a bike that is ceasing to exist? Not a good marketing plan, unless you have a big surprise in store as a replacement. And it would have to be really big to excite the (quoted) 9% of 'Buell' people buying them, in addition to all the others who would rather buy something much faster.
Still waiting, but I wont hold my breath. I think the point he's trying to drive home is that Buell makes fast sportbikes. Move on or get out of the way.

With out the other shoe to drop, this becomes just so much hogwash - posturing - lol - build the tradition, then call it a tradition - I just build sport bikes, - that kind of line is pretty limiting, and a sad comment.

The Buell press release on the H-D site includes the Blast in the model summary .
See the "Buell & H-D in the News" section of BadWeb.

Buell sells bikes to H-D for Rider's Edge?
Makes sense to me.
After all, the Blast has been around so long, and has for the most part remained unchanged, it has to be the cheapest bike to build.

I was out of motorcycling for almost 20 years. When I returned I found the Buell Blast. Bought it new and enjoyed it. At the 1000 mile checkup I test drove an XB9SL and bought it. But if it were not for the Blast as an entry bike I probably would not have considered the Buell Brand.

For me, I would prefer to see the Blast updated - not destroyed.
