This is pretty nice...and it's about time.

Check out the seats, and the easy-to-clean back seats...oh and the "get your arse in the car" rear suicide doors that open 90 degrees to the body.

My guess is the motor will be revealed to be either Mercedes or VW.

Being pulled by one of those unmarked would freak me out. You'd have no clue until the lights came on. The light bars being integrated into the roof is awesome.

HAHA looks neat and luckily for me, my city is too cheap....haha

Very nice concept... But it doesn't 'look' like a very tough car - I'd love to see a 4WD Hummer-lookin' sedan thing that could run over - or through - anything.

Love the Deisel, love the seats, love the idea. I hope they try to source as many domestic parts as posible.

"But it doesn't 'look' like a very tough car"

It's supposed to be able to take a 75 MPH hit from behind. I'm assuming they mean that the officers will still be OK after impact. Hell, any car can take a 75 MPH hit if that's not the case.

Very cool, very "robocop", lol. I love the built-in response lighting - all black with tinted lenses, we'd never see it sitting on a shoulder running radar : ( 'Bout time someone came up with a specific vehicle for our LEOs (although, I LOVE seeing the Chargers in service around here!). Only thing....the Carbon Motors logo looks a little like a Renault badge to me <shrug>.

3.0 turbodiesel sounds like a Merc powertrain to me...wonder if they wait a year, if the proposed/new "small diesel" from Cummins/Dodge would work? Rumor is there'll be one in the halfton trucks soon, I want to say also a 3.0...just in the name of keeping it domestic is all.

The interior looks very Honda... Civic-styled two-tier gauges, Accord steering wheel.

There's a dealership nearby that sells nothing but used police cruisers. Won't it be cool when those get old enough to be sold as used cars!

Our town just bought six Chargers to replace some Crown Vics. The officer that went to pick them up says one will be totaled in 30 days. I hope not but he was saying that they really scream. Last time I was pulled over, in '95, I was paced by a unmarked Crown Vic. Lights behind the grill, a movable light box he set on the dash, no visible antenna on the trunk and no official tags. He cut me a break and dropped it to 80 in a 65 which got me traffic school. Has anyone ever bought a used cop car? A friend of mine has a Ky. State Police Mustang Pony, scary ride. Sits in a garage covered up now. Our current Crown Vics will probably go cheap considering the economy.

Has anyone ever bought a used cop car?
I had a Dodge Intrepid Interceptor. Had the spotlight and it was all black, the thing moved pretty good. It was always fun being the pace car on the highway.

I would NEVER buy a used cop car unless you knew for a fact it was a higher ranking officer who normally took it easy.

Out of all the cop cars that I have seen roll through our shop, there is only a small handfull that I would actually ever buy for a personal vehicle.

My city normally retires there cars at 75,000 miles. some are less then a couple years old at that time, very beat up!

All the "pool" cars are driven 24 hours a day for about a year (besides maint.)
3 shifts....1 car!

But with that when I was a kid my dad bought a Caprice, but it was fairly low mileage and he knew who it had belonged to...chief of Police (who normally just drive to work and back home, never pull anyone over or beat the cars too bad)

The squad I had today had over 160,000 miles on it (but it had heat AND a computer that worked). Awesome looking car, shame we can't aford them.

Robert, I hear you on the 3 shifts. Our guys run them 365, 7, 24 and with an on/off switch for an accelerator. Vehicle retirement at 75K that's a sweet deal. We do that in about 1 years time. Last I remember we have a few at over 250K not line cars but still

The cars are supposed to be cheaper to purchase/operate than converted cars. They start at $25k. I imagine the ones that detect CBR are a *bit* more expensive.
