Nice, really nice, bike. If I were Ducati I would be worried, and if I were H,K,Y or Suzuki I'd fire my designers.

It looks better in white, but I like the 1125R better. Is that front fairing supposed to do something?? I didnt bother to read the article.

It pisses me off when I see underslung exhausts on other bikes.

Stunning bike.My wife just remarked it sounds like a Ducati.

The front fairing is really cool too.I like the intake runners.I'd expect pricing around $15000. Not unobtainable for the determined.I've paid a premium for a premium motorcycle. It's worth it for the top shelf components.

quote:

Mass centralisation is key here and a Buell style under-engine stainless steel exhaust is in place. This contributes to a low center of gravity and a very flickable motorcycle.

We've certainly come a long way from the exhaust location being seen as "silly".

The KTM is too angular for my tastes, but it looks like a really well thought out bike and if the KTM's I've previously owned(all moto-x) are any indication it will be well built.

A challenge on the muffler from HD legal would come as no surprise as HD's legal department is larger than KTM.

Can you patent the location of a part?
I know you can patent the part itself, mounting systems, ect. But can you patent placement?
It's like the brakes; Perimeter brakes aren't a Buell invention or patent but the mounting system they uses is patented.
You can have perimeter brakes as long as you don't use Buell's mounting system.

I am trying to learn to love the looks of KTM's.

I am ashamed to report that I am not doing very well at all.

I think I will just stick will learning how to love the 1125R.

I doing very much better with that one, thank you very much, especially after riding it at Pocono.

KTM has come a long way in the last few years with their MX bikes and if the ones i've ridden have any indication on how the RC8 is it should be spectacular.

With the tail and seat that high, similar to the Ducati's, it looks like it would be more race oriented and aggressive enough with clip-ons to be somewhat uncomfortable on any ride other then a sprint of one hour duration. Fine for track days but not so much for great street riding. Nice looks though. Bob

With the raised up tail like that, what if you're a bit taller than average? No option to slide back, or change the seat.
This one isn't nearly as ugly as the SuperDuke, but it still is not a pretty bike.

Nice bike! I like the execution of the fairing lowers. Different.

Gotta dig that Buell muffler. : ]

Sounds like KTM may have a hit on their hands.

I'm not sure I trust much of anything advertised by the manufacturer about the bike though.

They cannot even be honest about the displacement, calling the bike "1190" but with an 1148cc engine. That's baloney and leaves me with the impression that they are putting marketing over honesty. Not good.

If I were a motorcycle publisher I'd want to be the first to put out a SuperTwin Shoot-out, with the Buell 1125R, Ducati 1098, KTM RC8, and maybe the Aprilia RSV 1000R
I'd love to be a test rider for that comparison.

I love the bike but, here is my problem.

$$$

MSRP:
according to KTM @ the show in milan, MSRP is of 16.500 euro roughly 25,000 US dollars.

Production:
Rumor has it they are only making 300 for 08. Might see the street price far exceed the MSRP.

Nice but not worth it.

Buell thanx for making the 1125r and selling it for 12k.

i thought i read somewhere that the price was around 13-14k. 25,000 is insane.

That is the way KTM has done it for sometime. Back when the first 520EXC thumper came out it had displacement of 510cc. Well hey few years later new "model" the 525EXC came out guess what still 510cc. It is just the way they do their models. Also the new 530EXC is still 510cc even though it is a totally different engine. My 950 Super Enduro has 942cc displacement. They are not trying to hide anything. It is not like they list an incorrect displacement on their website.

I was all hot and bothered over the Super Duke until I actually saw one for myself. It appeared cheaply made and certainly not worth the asking price.

I'm ice cold on KTM's at this point.

MCN have their first test of the KTM RC8 today, and are falling over themselves in praise of the bike, describing it as 'As good as a Fireblade and better than the Ducati 1098'

Fuelling is described as 'perfect' throughout the rev range, and the tester was very impressed with the fit, finish and adjustability of the parts. The bike has adjustable footpegs, toe pegs, bars AND adjustable seat subframe to suit a variety of rider shapes and riding styles. It also has top drawer WP suspension front and rear including ride height adjustment.

I have just re-read the test and there is not a single critcism of anything on the RC8, which is pretty impressive for a new bike launch, particulalry when tested by someone as critical as Trevor Franklin.

The same test also describes the 1125R as a 'non event', which puts his opinion firmly in perspective. To be honest, the journalist concerned has only ridden the 1125R at the much criticised Laguna press launch (when there was lots wrong with the bikes on offer), but this is also the KTM press launch and the bikes were perfect on both road and track.

Say what you like about the styling of the KTM, but at just GBP2000 more than the 1125R (GBP10500 vs GBP8500) and a lot less than the 1098 it will sell like hot cakes if they can get enough of them to satisfy demand (the whole original UK allocation for 2008 is sold already).

KTM aim to produce 2500 RC8's this year based on deposits already taken. I wonder how that compares with the 1125R?

Isn't that par for the course?
Seems here there aren't any new KTM street bikes in the showroom around here.
The best you can do if you don't get an order in, seems to be buying a used one.
While they look kind of like plastic origami in pictures, it's much like the 1125R in that regard, one must see the bike in person to really appreciate the looks.

The bike Buell should've built.

Only 350 are coming to the UK and at £10600 RRP they've sold every one
