If an internet forum told you to jump off a cliff.....would you?

So Mom Canfield dreamed up the internet, then whispered in Al Gore's ear?

Since I'm a new Buell fanatic, I was just curious.
Were there these types of rumors going around about the Tube Framed Buells being discontinued?
Just wondering about what was going around before the Firebolt was released.

Not that I remember. They just sort of dropped a bomb on us.

I recall when some HD dealership employees with heartfelt sincerity and an air of authority confided in me that HD would soon be quitting <font size="+1">Buell</font>. The last time I heard that was just before the announcement of the Firebolt almost two years ago. At the same time, those same souls refused to believe that HD would soon be coming out with a water cooled OHC model. I think some of them are still walking around shell shocked in denial, their entire world turned upside-down. LOL!

Probably the same ones telling you synthetic oil was bad for a Harley.

So then maybe...
Absence of rumors = big change?
Rampant rumors = more rumors?
It's kinda neat though, that Buell would cause such speculation, and the big J4, get the "What?! no changes this year for (place model here) ... the reviews won't be good..."

I would love to see an M2 replacement. I'm talking about a simple seat change on a Lightning, maybe a different headlight/fairing to help differentiate(sp?). The only additional cost would be the headlight set up, but they could keep the Lightning's existing set up, and use the rear subframe and tailsection from 'Bolt. no additional cost as far as R&D, and you have a 2 up naked bike.

Me I think we MIGHT see a cheaper bolt like an M2 and perhaps a touring type bike with a bigger motor that will give more torque but not much more power 'cause it will rev less and it will weigh more with the touring stuff. The 9 will remain the performance king of the Buell line.

People will continue to want a 1200 instead of the 1000 but unless Buell can make the 1200 rev high enough and stay together is won't happen.

Just a guess, we will see how it all comes out in July or august.

I gave up speculating and am really looking forward to seeing what is new for 2004. Will be a good indicator about how much user boards like this are considered in the development of a strategic marketing plan. Talk's cheap and tooling ain't.

Proliferating a line too much can place undue financial strain on the manufacturer and cause a demise which is something none of us want to see happen to Buell.

Actually, Al Gore and Mom Canfield would NOT get along. Course...the last one of her friends I met in the kitchen started a war and so did his son. Just goes to show.

Hootowl: Great quote that says it all!

Rumors?..my favorite is when our own in house pundit and frequent poster lamented, early last November, that Buell had "halted production of the XB9S". It was November 8th that 14 folks from Badweb stood there in safety glasses watching Mike Juliano and staff bust ass to get 28 off the line that day.

The other day I was at my dealership getting an oil change and struck up a conversation with one of the Harley mechanics about the Firebolt. The guy said he loved the bike and has been hearing hugh rumors about a 1300cc bolt on kit for the current Firebolt. Now I don't know if this is even feasible, but could this be whats in store for the 2004 Firebolt.

Following Buells multi-function component philosophy the spare tire doubles as a NOX tank.

Dave has updated his blog http://www.davegess.com/buellhist/blogger1.html ( ) with two entries...one regarding Ducati's GP win (hell of a thing to do in the time frame they've had) and thoughts on Buell's next model...

I would agree with most of the points, except for detuning the XB motor. What is currently there is perfect for street riding (from my limited experience on my demo rides). If BMC were to detune the motor for an XB9M, I think it would flop...BMC does not need a sub 70 BHP bike, especially for a JOAT type of bike.

Keep the state of tune and add the conventional wheels, brakes, and a little cheaper suspension. Detuning the motor should not be a consideration though. IMO, of course
