Our Founding Fathers were active in Fighting (roosters. Dog Fighting also has a long history.

I personally think dog fighting is cruel. But we are supposed to be a nation of the Free.

I ate hamburger last night- aka a cow was either blasted with a kill stick in the back of the head or its throat was just cut.

----
Vick should be dealt with by public outcry and the NFL would be forced to drop him.

Drugs are running out of control. Soo many meth labs that there are waiting list to bust them. Just kinda think the LEO's, LEA's and DA's could focus on getting some real problems SOLVED and not trying to get massive media attention.

Vick should be dealt with by the law, not public outcry.

"I personally think dog fighting is cruel. But we are supposed to be a nation of the Free."

It sounds like you want to make a statement, but won't come out and say it.

Just say what you mean. The tone of your post makes it seem like you think dog fighting is cruel, but you think people should be allowed to do it because you ate a hamburger.

Yep, we are supposed to be the land of the free.

Dog fighting is cruel - but so is raising a cow to be butchered. Where is the line? Who gets to define that line? Do you really need to eat steak or wear leather?

I just think that we are heading down a path -

but is the cow tortured and beaten and electrocuted to create a negative and more combative temperment?

If so, lets just restrict it to cow fights and eat'em too.

The line is we eat the cows and use their skin and boil their bones.

Chow down.

What about rodeo bulls? They are not eaten.

What about household pets???

Just playing devils advocate. Becuase what you consider OK others might not.

Many left wingers would ban anything and everything. We'd be walking around naked and eating dirt.

"What about rodeo bulls? They are not eaten."

Neither are the riders.

"What about household pets???"

If you want to ride your dog in the privacy of your own home, go ahead, unless it's a really small dog. That would just be insane, man.

"Many left wingers would ban anything and everything. We'd be walking around naked and eating dirt."

People do that already.

Sorry, man. I'm just not going to agree that dog fighting is something that should be tolerated in the name of freedom or choice in any kind of civilized society.

I do however believe that it's every American's right to take advantage of every freedom allowed by the Constitution. Dogfighting isn't illegal everywhere. If Vick wanted to do it with impunity, he should have done it in Idaho... but he didn't.

Wow, I didn't know it was still legal in any of the states.

Civilized society... One could argue how civilized we are.

Starbucks and Wal-Mart don't discount the sexual abuses by priest, massive drug abuse, nobody votes, fraud is common, divorce rates are over 50% if they even get married. etc etc etc

The mere fact that we watch and support ball playing athletes that get MILLIONS per year. When just 1/10th of that money could provided a well for drinking water in a third world country. NFL cost alone could fund _______ programs and save lives across the world.

Nascar makes enough money to educate how many third world people? etc etc

I'll stop playing around. I too hate dog fighting and if I was able to tie the rope to a tree - I'd hang his ass. When I heard about slamming a dog to the ground to kill it. I was pissed.

How about this...if he is found guilty, they castrate Vick without an anesthetic and then put him in a cell with a guy named Turner Brown. That should about take care of it.

If he's found guilty he shoud be made to run into PETA's national convention wearing leopard skin pants, a polar bear fur coat, snake skin boots, leather driving gloves, a fur hat with an ostrich feather all while handing out samples of elephant tusk aphrodesiacs.

I think people are being overly tough on poor Michael Vick. After all, he is a F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L P-L-A-Y-E-R. Much more importantly, he is a quarterback. He is allowed to do pretty much anything he likes as long as he keeps hitting the open receiver. It has been a very long time since he was held accountable for anything less heinous than a 4th quarter interception.

Plus, I heard that one of the dogs has told multiple variations of her story to the cops, and another one got a reduction of pending charges for testifying. Mike Nifong where are you now that we really need you?

Seriously, this scumbag's actions are about par for the course for many of todays pro players. There are many good people in pro sports, and I understand that Mike Vick does a lot of good things for the community. But come on now, drugs and dog fighting? How stupid do you have to be to f*ck up your career like that?

I know I've been busy, didn't know I missed the whole trial.

Michael Vick enjoys a presumption of innocence in a court of law. The court of public opinion (of which this forum is a part) is not under any restrictions.

Jury of his peers... jury of his peers.

I can't help but feel if they were really a jury of his peers, they'd all just go to Vegas.

He can leave the extension cord at the door.

This is a case of someone who has been catered to because of his talent at a GAME and has not been held accountable for his actions on several occassions, much like another local sports professional AI and never had the means to what they wanted when they wanted and don't feel the rules of society(laws) apply to them. both Michael Vick and his brother should be in jail for their action while they wee still at Va Tech. I have no sympathy and neither one should earn another dollar from sports.

I work for a vet and most of the"Pit Bull" dogs I see are sweet family pets, though their have been a few with questionable temperament. But you can and do get this with any breed. Watch out for the Chihuahuas and the Min Pins!!! Dog fighting is all about the money just like dog racing. I love dogs!!!

They don't earn money from the sport. They earn money because people devote hours of time sitting on the couch watching TV. They earn there money becuase you'll watch it.

I don't care who wins the Superbowl or even know who is playing this weekend. I know what my health is. I know what my bank account it. I know that if the average man would spend 1/2 the time watching sports - either reading about eating healthy or exercise, or taking care of his family. There would be a lot less heart attacks or divorces.

I've got to agree. In an average year I spend at least 5 minutes watching sports on TV. I am usually at a Superbowl party but I rarely know anything about the teams involved. Living in the south all my life it has always amazed me that grown men can become so absorbed in watching other men play boys games. When I was working the college football rivalry was very strong. People who otherwise were friends would develop enmity before Georgia-Florida weekend.

I just don't get it, its not like being totally absorbed in something worthwhile like MOTORCYCLES!

There was a while a long time ago, I used to go for a good ride on a twisty road during the Super Bowl. Almost guaranteed to have little traffic.

Dog-fighting, dog-racing, I guess they kill the retired dog racers more humanely so that's ok? They don't eat them though. Still dogs dying to entertain us.

Rooster-fighting, bullfighting ? Legal in some places, not others. It's ok to eat the chickens and bulls, not dogs? In this country anyway. Some places, people don't eat cows. We take dogs more personal because we like dogs more.
Better he beats his dog than beats his wife, I guess. There's just too many things to be outraged about. I grew up around dogs, we always had 2 or 3, and cats too. But still this one just doesn't bother me that much. You read in the paper every day about 20 or 40 bodies discovered lying around Baghdad, showing signs of torture by electric drill. Thinking deeply about that is too over-whelming, so I'll take something smaller to get outraged about, like some jerk who killed his dog(s).
If we could somehow catch Paris Hilton killing her dog, we would have mass-media heaven.
