Anyone have a good source to cut down a stock pulley thusly?  | ||

First and foremost, why not just buy the one on the right? A custom machine job is going to cost more to program and setup than just buying the actual billet part. Then there's the issue of the stock part being a casting. The parent material is not nearly as strong as a billet. Those thin areas on the spokes would scare the heck out of me on a cast part. I have no way of knowing whether it would fail or not but, it's an awful lot of material being removed from the original design. Erik was all about weight savings. If making those holes bigger could have been done, I have no reason to believe he wouldn't have already done it. | ||

My cut stock pulley is working fine for more than 50k now and my set up is 1250 ,machined heads and 536 cams.A good amount of power and torque. Milling has been done by Lucky parts,IIRC. It has been a lot cheaper than a billet one.  | ||

All i know is a friend did that same thing by hand with a porting tool but the outside edge on a lath | ||

Speed of Color, will do the machining of stock pulley. BUT.. it is pretty expensive, the shipping one way is 70 euro. (Message edited by johnod on December 31, 2014) | ||

i could do a little research on shipping if you want . i live in the netherlands but the german and belgium border is less than 10 minute drive from me. shipping costs are very different in each country depending on size and weight could save a lot | ||

Around 2010 three of us had ours machined by crossroads performance. It was inexpensive and has held up fine including about 100 1/4 mile passes. | ||

You can buy them already modified from a place in Europe, I can't remember if it was R+R or Speed of Color, but one of those guys sold pulleys or would modify yours. It might be 3 or 4 hundred including shipping, but surprisingly that's not out of line with a typical 'designer' Harley pulley now, from $450 to $660 for like Kuryakn or Roland Sands (plus tax & shipping!) | ||

Yes speed of color does sell them ready made, very nice too. About 500 usd shipped. Too much for me just for cosmetics. | ||

I'm tempted to switch to a 1.5" belt. You can get a used 10 spoke HD pulley for $40-60 on eBay, not to mention all the designer pulleys for big twins that are sold on eBay all the time for under $100. It would probably take some work to fit a 1.5" wide front sprocket though, not sure as I never looked. | ||

I bought a used pulley for about $60 and spent about $80 (if my recollection is correct) having it cut. No I wouldn't spend $4-500 on this for cosmetics either! | ||

This is the pully That was on when I purchased my S1 If I am correct Dutch has it. I regret getting rid of it as I need it now and it is half the weight of stock  | ||

I purchased a 65 tooth pulley for a Big Dog chopper. I had the center machined out and mounted it backwards with a spacer. Pulley was $50 on eBay and the machine work was $40. | ||

Bummer, I guess so. Even so, if you went to a small machine shop, tell them what you need, they most likely would be able to do it. Plus if a few went in on the deal...might make it cheaper. | ||

anyone found a source for the billet one? I had heard once that nice custom pulleys were on the market for the tube frame bikes, however they were (?) made from too soft of a material and the belt would ultimately sharpen the teeth on the pulley over time, then the sharp teeth would cut the belt. Anyone remember this? I would be in for a nice billet one, preferably if it matched the design element of the PM wheels. | ||

I bought a billet pulley 10 years ago that was deeply discounted. When I found out the hub was too small, it was for a Sportster. I too had the center punched out. The chrome face was undisturbed and has withheld the test of time. THX again PaPa Fred. | ||

Does anyone know the bolt spacing for the tuber and for the xb? I can measure them for you if still needed!? But the xb pulley has six bolt holes and the tuber five ,so thats not gonna work! The thing you could do is have the holes welded shut in the tuber pulley and drill six new for the xb wheel (also have the heart enlarged by 2 mm on a lathe) XB pulley heart = 68mm tube pulley heart is 64mm |
