so im doing some more toying with ecm spy and it is wayyy over my head. not even the tuning guide helps.

I ran diagnostics on everything and everything said active and it completed. Does that mean everything I tested is ok and within spec?

This is driving me nuts

You ran professional screen diagnostics on the entire system and ecmspy found no problems? Curious. It has no "check cps" function. On the book question, it is close. 1999 was the first year for fuel injection, so it got a stand-alone one model year book. A 2001 book will note changes from the 1999 specs and might contain references to some recalls and upgrades. There are service manuals posted on BadWeatherBikers, but I don't think '99 X1 is among them. Things like where the timing mark plug is and how to static set the timing are universal. Good resources are available online. I think your crank position sensor will be obviously fried when you look at it.

Buell service manual for '99 is also for the '00. Got both bikes and it's one manual for both. Yellow and black cover.

Your CPS could be fried, or maybe it's just shorting out, as in chaffed wiring. Either way, you've got to get in there and find out. Don't forget to check your wiring from the CPS to each connector as noted above.

checked the wiring to and from...no chaffing.

I cleared my codes and re ran diagnostics (did this a few times) and it keeps pulling the codes for TPS and the air intake sensor. I think Im going to try replacing these first and go from there. What is the PN for these?

Also, is the timing check hole the big allen bolt on the bottom of the V?

Intake Air Temp Sensor...

Even though there is no chaffing, talk to Al at American Sport Bike and ask his thoughts on replacement. Give him your symptoms as you originally described it.

TPS will have to be sourced elsewhere. You can call AL at American Sport Bike and ask him where to go to get it.

going to try a TPS and IAT from a 2000 ford mustang as suggested by another member here. Savings of about $110 : )

when I put the new TPS on do I need to calibrate it or just reset it? If i need to calibrate it can it be done via ecm spy?

reset is calibrating it for the ecm

the tps reset establishes the 0 position value of the tps voltage and associates that as 0 for the ecm.

the mustang TPS uses a different connector. I guess they changed the connector types in different years?

IMHO, a ground wire should be ran from the body of the O2 sensor to the negative side of the battery and that applies to all sensors on a motorcycle ...

I performed a compression test today and the front cylinder had about 110psi and the rear was really high at 180psi. What could be causing this?
