Well my girlfriends dad died and after the funeral\celebration of his life. We were asked to come out to the weekly biker meetings on Wednesdays. So we came out to this meeting and it was like a drunken stoner party and there were all kinds of bikers there. Of course i show up wearing one of my buell shirts and immediately upon arriving one of the bikers said it's a good thing you didn't bring your bike because i would chop it. WTF man can't you keep your mouth shut about other peoples bikes. I showed the guys that were interested about buells some pictures of my bike and they were oooing and ahhhing and the jack ass that made the comment was fumbling through his phone and about 500 pics of choppers and the funny thing is nobody even looked at his pics so he put the phone away. Then one of the guys asked him if he had seen the pics of my bike and he said no let me see and then he said yeah i would chop it. Then the guy showing him the pic off my phone says yeah he chops them and makes them go fast! I started laughing and said whats fast he said 105mph. I said 105?? that pathetic and i would put up my pink slip on my bike and take on any harley they got and they all shut right up. not even 1 taker on the offer. But for the most part the bikers were pretty cool and there stories were about 40 yrs old but it was a good time.

back in the day, I rode my Honda 160, next my 450, over to New Ray's Triumph shop a lot, weekdays as often as weekends.

There was this skinny old [50-ish?] motorcyclist who was quite often hanging around there

now, I am he - only 10 yrs older......

52 years ago CHOPPERS were the most "DANGEROUS" vechicle'es on the road(street)and that has not changed ...

All they are good for is short movements between the DENS OF INEQUITY ...

Wows this one;

With a small amount of control surfaces and a big enough engine you can make a orange crate fly until you loose one, then it is just another rock !!!

There were a lot of hard core old-school bikers where I lived in WNY. One guy gave me a load of it over my Buell. He kept saying things like "what's it good fer?," and, "it still ain't good for nuthin." So, I saw him follow out onto the gravel parking lot watching me leave and I sprayed that gravel at WFO throttle. It was good for that

The guy I purchased my S1 from was 62, And he rode it hard. Reason for selling it was his back just didn't agree with the clipons. LOL, he could have gone another 10+ years if he had just gone back to stock bars.

Aw man, this was a fun read. Some nice stories...

You know, I think Erik was ahead of his time with these old tubers. Nowadays EVERYONE is telling me my bike is awesome and asking me where to get one.

I tell them, "They don't make 'em anymore."
They say, "Why not?"
I say, "Apparently, Harley thought they didn't sell well enough."

Then they give me this incredulous look. As if to say, "Why the hell not! Just LOOK at that thing!"

picked up a 98 cyclone this spring. Got it to ride with my boys. They told me my roadking was an old mans couch. Road king didnt get alot of miles this year.
If they bitch about what kind of bike you are driving they are not "bikers" A biker likes all motorcycles. might not want to own every make or model but still looks at every bike they see.

The bikes we now refer to as "choppers" these days are mostly HD powered kit bikes built from aftermarket parts to look like movie props or HDs that conform to strict style guidelines. They are the ride of choice for like-minded individualists who buy the "lifestyle" BS that HD marketing sells.

The first (real) "choppers" were big twins with everything that was not absolutely needed chopped off to make them lighter and faster. They were the ride of choice of some free thinking individuals who dod not buy the image that HD was selling. In the day, chopper riders were not even welcome at many HD dealerships.

They were the performance bikes of the day.

Buells are HD-powered performance bikes - modern day choppers.

Sweet..."power egg!"

I'm with Tim--if it's got two wheels and a motor, I can find something I like about it.

Sweet BSA! My buddy has one just like it that was responsible for turning me on to Brit bikes back in the day. I have been trying to wrest that thing from him for years now. He doesn't ride and it just sits in the garage. I rode it a few years ago and there is nothing wrong with it that I can't fix. But ... he won't let go. Dammit.

I rode a Trident a lot back in the day, although I didn't own that one. Next to my Norton, I like that one the best out of all the Brit bikes. If you think the BSA is hard on the hip, try kicking a Commando. I got my M2 because I was thinking maybe I didn't need to be riding a 30+ year old bike every day and the Buells were the only thing I could see that didn't make me puke. Glad I did it.
