I feel your pain, Doughnut! I've considered all the cool mods that have been displayed here. Recessed signal lights, trimmed cam cover, clip-ons and rear-sets, custom paint, etc. Make some very sharp looking machines. But starting at bone stock, more or less, I can use the excuse of preserving it for posterity to refrain from getting started. That way, I save the money for improving the Sportster more.
However, different heads could be installed without showing. And more power would be nice.

The S2 uses stock Sportster controls. Stock any Harley controls, for that matter. Pre-1995 (?).
BTW, I had an issue with mine where I went through four of the buggers (that my dealer warranty replaced until it became apparent that I had a poor grounding issue. I ended up running the brake light circuit through a relay so the switch doesn't have to carry the lamp current.

What should I expect for my 96 S2 with about 12000 miles, good, but used condition. At least $4000?

Sorry to hear you have to give it up. I paid $3700 for mine two years ago, with 20k on it. You might see $4000. I wouldn't sell mine for that. Good luck.
