Build date is more accurate than trying to decipher the age by VIN.My 1995 #000000036 was built in 3/95,but the one I sold to Eric was some long # like JMZ 1194885958 and was built in 7/94.I thought all along I had a real early S-2 until I saw that.I asked Erik about in in San Diego on All Cal tour and he said they never thought they would make/sell that many so the first series of #'s was not enough. They were more similar to H/D Vins.

Thanks!!! did do a little more diggin' and think I got it figured out; build date was 7/94, VIN ends in 133283 - so near as I can tell this would be #283

Cool, you have an oldie,it should have a billet triple clamp vs the later cast one,and the cool eggcrate vent grates, not to mention that engineering marvel of a fairing stay add-on clamp around front steering tube of frame.
Mine was 133258.

Yup - Billet clamp, eggcrate etc. It's a great ride, my favorite moment was pulling p to a Harley dealer on it a couple months ago, a guy getting of a dresser next to me asks; "is that the new Buell?" - the look on his face when I told him it was 10 years old was priceless!

What is the advantage of having my "clip ons" instead of the "regular bar" set up. Someone asked me my my grips went directly to my forks and I did not have an answer.

Went to A wedding in Stevens Point (WI) this weekend. At one point I go to the parking lot to get away from all the noise and what do I find, all the Groomsmen looking at my S2 discusing it. Nothing but props from them all. They were amazed at how big it was. I had to explain that it was not an XB, but an "old school" Buell. One of the gentlemen said that he had liked the Buells before, but had never seen a non-XB. Now he loves them.

Bart,
Still looking for mine, still not sure if 700 is the proper # to tell the truth - vin ends in 700, build date 12/94.

Philly,
check with FMJ, or Court, they are the authority on such issues. But with a build date that early, I'm inclined to believe that 700 is your number, not 1700. Still, check with them.

Vin # really does not reflect where you are in the line up of the number of S-2's built.David, you have a fairly early one--1994 build date,Carey J has the earliest I have seen with a june 1994 build date.My other was built in july 1994.My first was built in march of 1995--but it has the 0000035 vin #.I have no idea what the first series of vin's starts or ends at.
BTW,David,do you have the billet upper triple clamp??
Bart,we should update our S-2 list with build dates.

Is the build date the month/year sticker on the steering headtube, or is that sticker just a sticker? I know Court once told me the build date for mine, forget what he said now, bike's at home today so can't check it.

I clipped this out of some magazine some where, its to faded to take a pic of so I'll type it out:

Buell American Motorcycles has developed a "special recognition" program for the S2 Thunderbolt line, the motorcycle that marked the beginning of Buell's collaboration with Harley-Davidson in 1993. Buell S2 and S2T owners are being mailed a Signature Series timing cover to identify their motorcycles as Signature Series models. Buell is seeking current and former owners of the S2 and S2T's to complete its registry. Owners who have not received the Signature Series packet should send there name, address and VIN number to:
Scott Habegger,
Buell Distribution Corp.
P.O. Box 653
Milwaukee, WI 53201-0653

I clipped this sometime in 1998 and is how I received my second Signature Series packet for my S2.

I think I'll drop them a note!

On another front, I rolled to 32,000 miles this morning on the way to work!
Top end has never been touched (as far as I can tell).
Love that bike.....

Keep us posted on the note response. I heard that mail-in request is out of date, but hopefully there's a filing cabinet of these packages in someone's cubicle somewhere just waiting for a request. If so I'll rummage up a stamp and envelope and mail off a request too.

FMJ,
No billet triple clamp on mine. They stopped fairly early, right, sometime in the 400s? Maybe for he heck of it I'll send a SASE to the address Carey posted.
Can't hurt, right?

I got to know Scott Habegger during the mid 90's when he was with Buell... Last I knew he was part of the V-Rod program...

Yeah, mine's not that pretty, either. It's got milled recesses with all kinds of tool marks and stuff on it!

Josh, could be, I'm certainly no expert. But mine has got some recesses milled into the upper triple, and the mill marks are quite visible.

I can post a picture after work, but somebody will probably beat me to it!

I was told mine is the billet version as well, and it too has recesses and some mill marks.
If Josh's is a factory early version, then it is an early early version.

Josh's photo is indicative of a top yoke from Buell MOTOR Company. I'd bet that pic is from his RS around 1988-1992.

The top yoke with the visible mill marks is the product of Buell MOTORCYCLE Company, circa 1994 and was one of three various iterations that appeared on the S-2 model. Basically, they were mill marks clearly visible, mill marks cleaned and cast (a rougher and gray appearance).
