Newbie here... Rode an '86 FXRT for 13 years and moved to Colorado. Want something a little more nimble and fun in the curves. Looking at an M2 (asking $4600) and was curious what thoughts anyone might have. Price seems a little high, but who knows... Been reading quite a bit in the archives and have a decent handle on the normal stuff / design issues. Looks like the bike is fairly easy to work on for a shade tree mechanic and I enjoy wrenching almost as much as riding... anyway... any other thoughts would be welcome. JJJ | ||

I had an 85 FXRS rode it for 17 years till it died in a wreck. I now have a 99 M2, for 2 months so far, the M2 will remind you so much of your RT except 1 thing it is superior in every way, well maybe except for two, at times I miss the highway pegs when I'm on I-5 and I might have to put S3T bars on it if my fingers don't quit going to sleep. Such is life when your 52. | ||

JJJ, Forty six hundred is even above premo for a stock 2K M2. See if he has added anything to it ie: cams,carb.,flowed heads,etc. Or maybe he really wants to keep it and somebody is making him sell.  . Look around before you jump. They are great bikes, I love mine...... Charlie | ||

Thanks again... I think Charlie is right. He doesn't really want to sell... wife wants it gone. The bike is basically untouched, which is what I was after. No reflection on anyone here, but I've simply bought too many bikes and cars over the years that were modified by folks that had no business picking up a wrench. If we can come to terms on price, I think this will give me a good start for some weekend wrenching. Gotta see how bad the wife wants it gone. JJJ | ||

"The bike is basically untouched, which is what I was after." Sometimes getting what you want is worth a premium. Even at $4600, it's substantially less than I paid for my new 2000 M2, and I was getting a screamin' deal at the time. See if he'll throw in some extra stuff, maybe. | ||

I paid $4000 for my '99 M2. It had a shitload of miles as it was used for a daily 100 mile round trip commuter. But it also had receipts for EVERYTHING. Recalls such as the swingarm and rocker box gaskets etc. were all done. I have not had to do much work to it at all. The most difficult and about only thing I had to do was to replace a piece of oil line where the drain t's off. Kind of hard to get to. I love to ride the thing. TT | ||

Well, that's just about what I paid for mine 18 months ago. 2000 M2 with 3500 miles. Had a lot of things added, some of which I didn't want, but what the hell. Lately the prices here range from $3500 to $8000, most on the lower end. If it's the color you want, and convenient, offer a less, but don't be afraid to buy what you want. You have to admit, it's still a bargain at that price compared to the MSRP, and still a pretty good value overall for such a great bike. Not every purchase has to be a screaming bargain. Un-messed with is better than messed up, that's for sure. | ||

Well... probably too much, but we settled on 4k. Due to some traveling I have to do, won't arrive in my garage until July 5th. Unfortunately I leave town again for a 5 week long job on July 6th... oh well. Guess I'll get to play with it in August. They say you either love 'em or hate 'em... I'll let you know. JJJ | ||

JJJ, Welcome to Colorado, and congrats on the bike purchase! "They say you either love 'em or hate 'em..." For me it's both. Just gotta find the flow with the ride/wrench relationship - beer helps  (Steamworks!). Get a small hydraulic bottle jack, service manual, metric and SAE tools, zip ties...
